Am I missing anything here?

Run stabil through it.
Change engine oil. (No filter, right?)
Change lower unit lube.
Pull plugs, squirt some oil in the cylinders.
Turn engine over, re-install plugs.
Store in the 'down' position.

on my 15 4 stroke, which is basically the same motor ( I think)

I drain the gas out of the carb. I also fog the motor

but not everyone does that

I also remove the prop, check for fishing line and lube the prop shaft

I disconnect the gas line and let it run out of fuel.
Same as draining the carb?

I was going to add a question to this thread, and ask about running the motor out of gas. That's what I've been doing. Not sure what the service manual says about disconnecting gas line and running it dry?

Good point to take off prop and check for line too.

only My opinion but as a certified Mech for many years I prefer to leave treated fuel in the system year around. Stabil the fuel, Fog the engine as per directions change all the fluids and my Bigfoot 9.9 has a filter. And you will be good. Dry carbs will allow the rubber to get solid and crack, can allow oxidation of metal parts also. I use my rig all year and only let it set maybe 2 months at very most when ice is on here. After 10 years on 2 diffrent rigs I have had no issues. Just my 2 cents leave the fuel systems wet.

I have done it both ways, draining and not.

Once, when I did not drain and just use stabilized fuel, I had a problem in the spring. Took the carb apart and found a line on the fuel bowl and float from where the fuel level was. There was residue from that point down (not very much, but enough to plug the jets which are tiny on that carb)

after that I drain it. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the fuel bowl. Running it dry would be fine too Modog.

I never had a problem with dried out o rings or gaskets or oxidation by doing this for the 2-3mths that I store it. Im sure a lot depends on the enviornmental condiitions they are stored in more than anything. I would rather do that then let the gas evaporate from the carb and leave a residue in the bowl, which is what I think happened to me in that case.

And I dont think they went to the expense to put that drain there in the carb just for looks ;)

And I have been a certified mechanic for 20+ years, have done it both ways, never had a problem with either method until that incident.

So now I just run them out of gas, snowblower, mower, chainsaw, etc all get the same treatment and have never had any problrms.

I think its fine either way but thats just how I do it now

Sounds like you got it right, and no..there is no oil filter on the prokicker.

I run stabilized gas through mine, change the oil, lower unit lube, tip her down and see ya in the spring.
