View Full Version : How did we get so dumb?
You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.
Abraham Lincoln, (attributed)
Is it just me or does it seem like it is getting easier to fool people and why? Almost every day there is another hoax that defrauds billions of dollars from millions of people. Who is the watch dog that must be either sleeping or incompetent or does such position exhist? Is it our responsibility that we have lazily given over to a stranger?
We elect people like the Gov of Illinois, buy something that will fail almost immediately, line up with our money in hand and beg some crook to make us instantaly rich, or sign up for a house that has payments that are higher that what we take home.
Did people instantly get stupid?
Your thoughts and please don’t get political because that is just handing the blame off.

You should watch the movie, Mr. Smith goes to Washington. I can't tell who is the liar anymore. Politicians make it easy now, they are 100% bull and don't care who knows it.
And now PackerSmacker, Smoker62, Rsphar, Shadbuster, Bassbuster and VikingCrusher are all the same person ... now what?

We seem to elect our officials on the emotional issue of the moment, with little understanding of the process or where they stand on important issues. And sometimes we elect officials who are thought to stand on principles and we find that they have no dicipline.
It is all about the money and getting re-elected. Some other issues may be dealt with in between, but filling the coffers and pedaling influence is all the matters to politicians at the highest levels.
No money or lobby equals no real voice for the average guy. Those of us who play by the rules always get stuck with the bill as everyone else heads for the exits.
Government officials always avoid the hard problems: budgets, SS, Medicare, etc. It is always rolled off the future generations and officials to deal with. They develop programs on the back of the taxpayer that make them look like heroes and create a voting block, while bankrupting our country.
I hear people voice outrage, but they seldom know what they are mad about or take the time to understand the issues.
Apparently, the goverment knows we are all suckers and keep their game on.
Take care,

You need to be accountable yourself for investments. Never buy something you do not under stand is a fundemental rule of investing. The billions that went with the last ponzi scheme is the fault most of all of the individual investors. The people who should have known should be all fired as well but ultimately not understanding your investments is the key.
You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

I think that quite a bit of it has to do with campaign contributions. Follow the money trail. What corporations are contributing large amounts of money to what candidates/parties? How much did the candidates/parties get from GNMA, FNMA, Citibank, etc, etc. Which party is the UAW sending bags of money to? When a senate seat has a value of over 1 million dollars you know that the senators are getting rich at our expense.
What is up Karpie Smoker?

I think the late comedian George Carlin said it best: "think of how dumb the average person is - then realize that half the people are even dumber than that". LOL.
