Howdy,
Does anyone have any experience with this motor? I noticed that in redesigning it they reduced the weight but also reduced the displacement as well. I am considering this motor on a 618T, however, I am concerned that this new version will not perform as well as the previous 90.
Interestingly it now has less displacement than the Yamaha 90, a point that Suzuki used to use as a critique of the 90 Yamaha. Since the Yamaha has a reputation of being slow out of the hole on a 618T I am concerned that the new Suzuki may be a step back even with it's lower gear ratio.
Any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great holiday season,
Ruddiger

The old Suzuki 90 was the same motor as the 140 they had along with one or two HP models in between. My boat is rated for a 90 max hp. The old Suzuki 90 by size and weight is way too big for my boat, so down sizing the motor on Suzuki`s part was a smart move.

Now comparing the Suzuki to the Yamaha I don`t know. The old Suzuki 90 was a big pig for its HP rating. It may have been a cost saving decision by Suzuki to use the same motor for several HP models. Going all the way up to 140 was a stretch from 90.
I`d say the new Suzuki 90 is better suited for its hp rating than the old 90.

Not saying the older Suzuki 90 is a bad motor, just too big for some aplications with a 90 rating.
I have a 70 Johnson BTW.

This may or may not be relevant, but this Suzuki test w/the new 90, on a heavier hull, looks promising.

The next issue of Bass and Walleye Boats Mag will have a test on the new DF 90 on our V1683 SC. This motor ran very well.

Howdy,
I do not subscribe to Bass & Walleye Boats. In fact, I have only seen a copy of it on the newsstands in my area one time. Is there a way to read this review online? I would be very interested in their assessment of the new motor compared to the previous 90 Suzuki.
Thanks,
Ruddiger

It wouldn't be on the website until after the magazine hits the stands. Bass And Walleye Boats mag does have a website. bwbmag.com It would most likely be in the "Boat Test" section. There will not be a comparision in the article to the old DF 90. The article is about the new DF 90 and the boat.

Thanks,

I can't get in to the BWB site, but this may be the same test as posted in Trailer Boats, which is a sister magazine to BWB.

Here is something to think about. You are better of getting the smallest hp out of the biggest block .This is how they do it, say a 150 hp 175 and 200 all use the same block. The lowest hp is going to be the stronger motor, reasons....dont have to push it so hard is one, and the manufacture can go plus or minus 10 percent on it ratings, ex. f150 yamaha is said to have 163 hp and a 140 suzuki is said to be from 128 to 138hp .The 140 is the most hp with that block
