I recently purchaseed a Lowrance X27 and want to transfer my stored waypoints from my old X15 to my new X27. Please tell me this in NOT a difficult thing to do. Remember, I'm a computer IDIOT and not technically saavy at all, and I mean AT ALL! Anyone have a simple way to explain this whereas I can simply print what you tell me out and have it ready for next spring so it's a simple process for me to do when it's time for me to fish? Please say yes....Thanks everyone.

How about:
menu, menu, system setup-transfer data
Then hit Save on the first one, Load on the second.

That's from memory, but I'll fairly certain I got it right.

Brian.......Grandpa Joe is indeed correct, although you will need an MMC card to store the data. A couple of other different ways to store/move waypoint files around are explained in great detail on a friends website. Go to www.hightechfishing.com (http://www.hightechfishing.com) and Doc Bruce Samson will enlighten you with his Lowrance wisdom. This guy is an electronics genious and his website contains a wealth of information. The next thing for you to try is download a simulator from the Lowrance webpage, and play with your new unit on your desktop this winter. Next spring, you will be the local expert and can concentrate your efforts on fishing instead of having your face buried in a User Manual. Best of luck to you..........GS

PS-Try "Advanced Waypoint Management-Part 1" on Bruce's webpage. It shows you the entire process step by step and even includes pictures.

Sleeper,
How "big" of an MMC card do you recommend I should get to transfer stuff onto? Thanks for the help on the website. I think I'll toy with that this winter!

Check out wwwEasyGPS.com that site should be able to help you.

Sleeper,

The largest .usr file that has way over 100 way points in it is 30KB. You can use a MMC or SD card to save and transfer your waypoints. You can get a 512MB card in it will hold just about anything except large sonar recordings on. You will also need a card reader or a computer that has card reader slots already built into it if you want to copy the files to your computer. Lowrance products will read up to 1GB cards. SanDisk cards work the best with Lowrance products.

(To save you waypoints from the X15)

Take all mapping cards out of the card tray and put the blank card into the "A" position of the tray.
Power on your X15
Make sure all of your trails are deleted but leave any routes you have made before because those are also saved along with the waypoints
Press the MENU button twice
Highlight System Setup and press the ENT button
Highlight Transfer My Data and press the ENT button
The Save box will be highlighted, so press the ENT button
Press the down arrow key to highlight File Name if you want to change it and press the ENT button (you can leave it Data for just transferring you waypoints now)
If not, just go down and highlight the Save Data box and press the ENT button
You should now have your waypoints saved to your new blank card.

(To load you waypoints into your X27)

Make sure you have no mapping cards in your card tray and put the card into the "A" position and power on your X27
Press the MENU button twice
Highlight System Setup and press the ENT button
Highlight Transfer My Data and press the ENT button
The Save box will be highlighted, so now highlight the Load box and press the ENT button
Use the down arrow key and highlight Load Data
Press the ENT button and your waypoints should now be in your X27

Sounds worse that it really is but will become second nature if you save more waypoints or other information to the card with your new X27. There is much mare you can save to the card such as Overlay Data, Version 2 or Version 3, individual fishing trip .usr files that include new waypoints, tracks and icons.

I suggest putting a different file name on any new files you want to save. I usually put the date in for a file name so I do not overwrite the original .usr file. That way you will not lose your original waypoints you put on your X27.

Hope you have fun with your new X27 because it is way better than the X15. I went from a X15 to the X25 a few years back.

You can contact me by PM or e-mail if you have problems or want other information.

Why are you advising to delete trails? They will transfer over just fine. Or is there somthing unique with an X15 that I dont know about?

The only reason I suggest removing trails is that way you have a clean install of only the waypoints, icons and routes that you have on your unit. After every fishing trip I save everything and the remove all waypoints, icons and trails from my unit and them reinstall my clean .usr file that only has the original waypoints, icons and routes in it. I do this so I can reload every fishing trip and take off the information I need for my computerized fishing reports for every trip. Then when I go fishing again in the same area I have a clean install of only my waypoints, icons and routes. My waypoints for Big & Lt. Bays de Noc are only of shallow hazards, netstakes and specific areas where they have put out bouys that are not on my mapping chips.

I have .usr files for individual states and bodies of water so that not all of the information is on my unit for individual places I fish. I have the .usr files for Michigan and Wisconsin. Also the for those states I have seperate .usr files for Lake Michigan and Inland lakes. Also for Lake Michigan I have separate .usr files for the Cedar River area and Big & Lt. Bays de Noc.

Additional information after edit:

I do have a few trails that are saved for exiting and entering some ports and navigating some rivers. These I leave on and have on my clean .usr file for loading before a new fishing trip. The trail I was referring to are only the ones that you have on from previous fishing trips and are not saved for a clean install of waypoints, icons and routes. The saved trails will also be saved in the same .usr file and will be loaded when you reload the before a fishing trip.

Albe:

This is good information, but when brian1785 goes to the local electronics store, 1 GB SD chips may be hard to find. I've had no trouble using 2 GB SanDisk in my LCX27c, LMS-334i, LMS-527c and iFinder H2Oc and those chips are still on the shelf at the local Office Max. A Lowrance tech said the 2GB chips will work, but NOT to use SDHC chips. 4 GB and larger chips all seem to be SDHC, so avoid those.

I don't know how much longer the standard 2 GB SD chips will be available, so I buy a few spares when they are on sale.

This is all great stuff. I am in the process of converting (Painfully) from Garmin 162 and Hot Spots to Lowrance 522c and Lakemaster. Have also purchased the Map Creat version 7. Think I can master converting my old waypoints to new via the above info.

My question is can I link my 522 with custom waypoint card to show on my laptop? My old Garmin I could view lake map detail and waypoints and then print. Worked very well.

Any thoughts gents?

Thanks
Jerry

You can transfer the waypoints from your card to MapCreate, view the waypoints on the maps and print a map with your waypoints on it. Go to this link to view an example. http://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/album.php?do=editpictures&albumid=130&pictureids[]=1057

jeff (great guy and very knowledgable) from navionics stated that their new computer map CD allows you to convert from any format to any format with just a few clicks of the mouse. when jeff gets home from the novi show maybe he can explain in detail... it was busy at the show and i didn't get to ask many questions.. he was working along with lance valentine's booth and we were both busy.

Yarcraft91--I found it interesting you and I have similar units--that is a 27C and IFinder.
First, I loaded data from my 26C onto a Sandisc chip. That data would load into a friends IFinder.
Then I loaded data from two different IFinder onto two different chips.
The data I loaded to chips in two different IFinders would not load into my 26C---the error message said something about different software versions.....however, when I tried to put the same data chip in a 112C at a dealer, it loaded fine. The 112C loaded all the files from the two IFinders and my 26C.
I suspect the problem is with the read function or settings in my 26C....?
thoughts, anyone?

Lowrance has storage for 1000. If you have 600 and try to add another 500 you will get an error message. The 112 may not have any stored waypoints like the 26.

Both of the IFinders and the 26C are relatively empty.....maybe were 100 waypoints in the 26C, and fewer than that in each IFinder.
????
The 26C also has an issue with the backlight flashing continuously--I tried to reset to all factory settings and then tried a restart with the pages and power key trick---didn't help.

Try a Hard Reset of the unit. Power off the unit if it is on. Then hold the Zoom IN & Zoom Out buttons in and press the Power button in until the map of the United States comes on the screen. Then release the three buttons. This deletes everything in the memory. If you have information in the unit that you want to keep, make sure you save it first because it will be gone after you do this Hard Reset.

I would not go to big on an SD card. That X-15 may have a size limit, or may not even read an SD card. My X-15 would not. Luckily I had the MMC card that came with it. That was a 16MB card, and had plaenty of room for all my saved data.
