View Full Version : BELOW THE SHELLYVILLE DAM
Saw in the In-Fishermen that they still consider this a top spot for early trophys. Has anyone fished the river below the dam? I know it used to be a great spot. Is it still worth the trip? Thanks Ron

As an outdoor writer for the nearby newspaper, the Pantagraph in Bloomington, I often get reports of large walleyes early in the year at the spillways at Shelbyville and at nearby Clinton Lake.
Shelbyville eyes have been improving because they have been using rearing ponds to raise fingerlings to 8 inches by fall before releasing them into the main lake. The Illinois Walleye Trail is having a tournament against there this year. Really good catches reported last year.
Call Mike's Tackle World in Decatur about the Shelbyville spillway at 217-423-0730.
Clinton Lake is also giving up some good eyes now at the DeWitt Bridge west to the Mascoutin Ramp. Fishermen are shore angling or wading. The lake is still no-boat because of Sept. 11. It is going to reopen in early April to regular use. Call Good Times Bait Shop at 217-935-6259
