View Full Version : suspending cranks
I'm new to walleye fishing, and am very interested in trolling with cranks. Question: can you troll with suspending cranks?

Sure. Rattlin Rogues for example work well.
Thanks! Wall-Mart had a sale on Smythwick rouges, 4 & 6 inch, at $2.50 a each. I bought 15. I figured I could use them for trolling, and if not I'll throw 'em at the eyes in hopes of beaning one of them.

Yes! A nice advantage with suspending cranks is the ability to cut the engine and let them sit. This works especially well in colder water where the 'eyes aren't as active. Just come to a quick dead stop and stay there for a minute or more, then hit the engine and creep forward again to repeat the trick again farther down the line. We were amazed how many hits we got this way night fishing in sub 45 degree water.

Thanks SCHNAUZER
I learn something every day here on WC.
Something to try out this weekend on the OL-MISS
I'm from down south, and will be going up to Stockton Lake, Missouri next Saturday to fish for a week. The water is extremely clear. Any suggestions for clear water cranking?

get them away from the boat with planer boards and try to run them as close to the bottm as possible

And don't be afraid to throw them one bit! This is my number one method for taking big walleye. Remember to stop them often during the retrieve and hold on!
