Happy New Year!

The walleye bite on Mille Lacs has been decent so far this season - not "every hole, every day", but it's better than last year at this time. First and last light are still the best times, although a fair number of fish are being taken through the middle of the day. 24 feet has been the preferred depth the past week or so. Indian Point, Spirit Island, 3-mile and Lakeside have all given both good numbers of fish and a respectable number of keepers. Use a Vertiglo spoon or Weasel (blue, green or black) tipped with a fathead for your jig line and a Gem-n-Eye or Demon with a live, small shiner (yes, we have shiners) under your tip-up/rattle wheel. Perch action (keepers) has been hit or miss - no one place stands out that doesn't involve a fair amount of sorting. Waxies and Eurolarva are the top baits here.

Yes, we still have shiners.

If you plan to travel off of the plowed roads, bring a snowmobile... you'll avoid a lot of frustration!

Don't forget to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html .
Once again this winter we will be renting FL20’s, power augers and underwater cameras. Be sure to reserve them ahead to assure availability.

Finally, Be careful of the New Year's Diets... Needing to shed a few pounds, Lena and Ole went on a diet that had specific recipes for each meal of the day. She followed the instructions closely, dividing the finished recipe in half for their individual plates. They felt terrific and thought the diet was wonderful - They never even felt hungry! But when Lena realized we were gaining weight, not losing it, she checked the recipes again. There, in fine print, was: "Serves 6."

Have a great weekend,
