Son w/ Leukemia Fan Club

My son Justin is 13 yrs. old and is fighting his 2nd battle with Leukemia since 1995. He is a patient at Texas Children’s Cancer Center in Houston. After 2 ½ yrs. of chemotherapy, which began in 1995, then being off treatment for 2 ½ yrs., he had to start all over again this time to include 2wks of radiation and an additional round of chemotherapy that will last until May, 2003. His first prognosis in ‘95 was a 95% chance he would be cured, this time, better than 50%, so we are not sure where our journey will take us this time around.

Justin has not had a normal life and is very sad that he had to be homebound and be away from his friends last school year, and has missed a lot this year. He has had some very trying times, especially in the past year, so as MOM, I am trying to brighten his days and put a smile back on his face. Justin loves to fish and duck hunt. He is a Lego, Star Wars, Alan Jackson, N’SYNC, James Bond and Gundam Wing maniac. He loves Crocodile Hunter and watches his show every chance he gets. Justin is a pizza & hot dog guy and he also loves to watch movies and play video games. He loves music, country, pop, MOM’s music, actually most all music.

I have started ‘JUSTIN’S FAN CLUB’ to show him how much people really do care by sending requests for autographed photos to as many celebrities as possible. This collection will give him something positive to remember this time of his life and so far it is working. He has received 30+ t-shirts, cd’s, stickers, posters, 30+ caps and over 1,000 autographed photos. He has been receiving photos, patches, shirts & fishing gear from fellow fishermen and some of the Celebrity Pros with their big catch! His ‘Fishin Bud Fan Club’ is over 100 photos!

Justin has had his 1st guided fishing trip with Skeeder D, Lake Fork Guide Services, who generously offered some one on one fishing time and gave tips on how to catch the ‘big’ one! Justin looks forward to having a life time fishing buddy with Skeeder D! He also received VIP treatment at this year’s BASS Masters Classic and was able to take a photo with the new B.A.S.S. Champ, Kevin VanDam. Justin was honored with a fishing trip to Wisconsin made possible by the people of Lake Link.com and Darin Novak. He caught his 1st Muskie, actually two, and got to see snow for the first time in his life!! This trip really put a smile on his face and he is still smiling!!

Justin now has a ‘Fishin’ Buddy Fan Club’. Has been named ‘Person of the Year’ on www.squirrellures.20m.com and featured on www.TexasBassFishing.com/justin/, texs.com/magazine/justin_young.htm, lake-linc.com/info/justin.cfm, wmi.org/bassfish/bassboard/fishing_tactics/T27389.htm, www.lake-link.com/article.cfm/88/, bassfishingusa.com/justin_young.html. Also, a New York Radio Fishing Talk Show has dedicated a show to Justin compliments of Dave Johnson on idratherbefishin.net for their show on 09/15. Justin hopes one day to fish with Hank Parker or maybe Alan Jackson! A special request has been sent to Alan & Hank to fish with Justin!

If possible, could you please send a personally autographed photo or a photo with you & your ‘BIG’ catch to Justin to add to his current daily growing collection from people all over the world. This has become such a spirit lifting experience and is having such a positive impact on his attitude towards what seems to be a never- ending nightmare. The smile on his face when Justin receives these photos each day is priceless and I want to continue keeping a smile on his face. Each day that he smiles, he is happy and I believe this will help him in a complete recovery from his cancer this time around. This will be the biggest FAN CLUB ever, please join by sending your photos to:

Alison,
First let me say, you, Justin, and your family will be in my prayers from now on.
I will send Justin some "stuff" for his collection....and I have an idea that I will post on the WC message board.

Alison, thanks so much for giving us an opportunity to be a part of Justin's life.

Keep a tight line....

I tried visiting all 3 of the links in Allison's message and 1 read error page, 1 took me to someweb building site, and the texasbass site never came up.

I hate to sound cynical here because if I'm wrong I look like a real Ahole but does anyone know Justin or Allison....or is this a hoax?

If this is legitimate then I am sorry, but 3 web links and none of them work?

If I am wrong I am deeply sorry and appoligetic. Its just this day & age. Oh well if I'm wrong label me and send me down the pike.

I just checked back on Lake-Link and She seems to be telling the truth. I understand your skeptisism in todays world, but this seems to be the real McCoy. I'm not very good with the computer and links, but if you go to www.lake-link.com and do a search on the message board for Justin the links will come up. It is in the Wisconsin section.

If you remove the comma at the end of the Texas Bass Fishing link it works.

I'd be glad to send a picture, heck I like showing off pictures of me and fish. In fact, has anyone noticed who the www.MuskieCentral.com cover boy is?

Seriously, I'd be glad to help and I'll start by fixing the broken links from Allison's original post.

Sory about the error on the web addresses, squirrellures.20m.com was the 1st one to post J but has moved and I do not have their new address, but wanted to give them credit.

Hey just give Kevin VanDam a call he knows who J is and Hank Parker has been contacted about fishing with J too!!! lol

The most recent information is on Lake-Link.com. You can view a thread called 'Fishing with Justin' and most people on this site know us!! The owners of the site also know us.

Thanks Ray for coming to my rescue!!!!!

Allison and all,
Thank you for clearing that up when I tried the links this AM they didnt work. I hate being skeptical but in this day and age you cant be too carefull. Case in point: a local radio station in Rochester NY had a fund raiser for a man & woman that lost their 3 children in a tragic fire at their home. After some $15,000.00 was raised a week later the father admitted to setting the fire. He was mad at his wife for fooling around on him. Well his wife made it out but kids didnt. Then the scumbag got a lawyer to try & use the $15,00o.00 for his defense fund, but was blocked by court.

All said I am very sorry for your son Alison, my prayers are with him & you. Can I do something for him. I am in NYS and would be willing to take him to Erie this summer for some walleyes or right now there is some great perch fishing happening around here. You name it I will do it. I feel bad about my previous post......I think I will go hurl now.

Alison,
I am not a pro, I just like to fish and hunt. My wife and I have a paint shop and paint lures for a Major tackle company., but we also "custom paint lures" and though it's not much I will paint a very special custom lure for Justin. This will take a little while to accomplish as there will not be another like it in the world and if he has an eye for color, he will love it. Hopefully this will perk him up a notch. I have four kids of my own and fortunetly they are all healthy. But I have cousins whom are going through the same turmoil you and your son are. Prayers be with you and Justin. Please email me an address as to where I can send the lure when it's done.

Please remember all the other childern with similiar problems. Instead of sending just this one kid stuff, go to your local childrens hospitlal, And share with those who are not getting publicity, Sounds as if Justin has already been blessed, lets not forget the rest.

I wish you the best Justin!!

Alison(mom):

I have a "Special" place in my heart for children, such as yours. I have, for the past 10 yrs, done seminars, and fund raiser for kids such as Justin. And for these Children's Hospitals, I know first hand, the care they give each and every child, as I have seen it first hand.

Our family's prayers will be with your family and Justin.

And for you Justin, There will be a Special package in the mail today, it will be something for you to Remind you, that you are a "Winner", and beat this!

If you ever make it to Wisconsin, let me know, we will spend a day on the water walleye fishing.

Keep your chin up,
Gary Gray,#10

My prayers are with your son and the rest of your family! Lets hope that he can beat this thing. Not sure if you are into trying alternative means for treatment but if you get the Familynet channel there is a show called Your Health with Doug Kauffman that is on every day that might be of some interset to you. If not than atleast put your son on a Probiotic to help rebuild his immune system.

Justin you can beat it! I manage a Radiation Oncology Center in MI and see people do so all the time. Keep your chin high buddy and your lines tight! God bless you and all the "Justins" out there.
