I'm considering trying a WE tournament this year & don't know anything about them. So, I need lots of advice, even to questions that I don't know enough to ask. So, plese help me. One is: Where do you keep your fish just prior to weigh-in? Is it in the live well with the aerator on? Another is: When do the fish get released & are you allowed to keep one for a dinner? Thanks.

I like to turn up the aerators to full aeration and fill so that all of them make it back alive for tourneys. Most are catch and release only so the fish you weigh will go back. If the state limit is 5 per person and the touney rules state that you will only weigh 5 fish with 2 people in the boat you can keep 10 fish and only weigh the 5 largest and eat the rest. More than likely the 5 that you weigh will be returned to the water per tourney rules.

Have fun and fish

Brian,

If you can, try to look at a 1700 Lund Fisherman and a 1675 proSport side-by-side for comparison. We did that for ~4 hours in January & bought the ProSport. I think there may be a boat show in Colorado Springs this weekend or next with 2 Colorado Lund dealers exhibiting - Canon City & Aurora Marine. If so, they'll probably have boat show "specials" and show these 2 boats.

The ProSport has a much larger port "glovebox," larger livewell (but, only 1 vs 2 for the Fish),lower HP rating 115 vs the Fish's 150HP (don't know if a 150HP 4 STK is made?), 2 seats vs 3 (plus Fish has 2 rear foldowns). Although the livewell dimensions look about the same, the "feel" when you actually see them is much different in favor of the ProSport. The price was a few $K lower in favor of the ProSport (with the same 115HP 4-STK), but not a big factor. With tha size motor, the ProSport was faster by a few MPH. The Fisherman is wider, a little longer, a little heavier (should get a trailer with brakes), and has interior lights. We didn't like the rod storage holders in the Fisherman or the reduced size of the rear storage caused by the 2 foldown seats.

We felt the ProSport was a better platform for the kind of fishing we want to do. If you post on the "Boat & Motors" forum, maybe EssoxProSport or Mike from Colorado will chime in on why they chose the ProSport over the Fisherman?

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

Looks like I am horrible at this boat buying thing. Need to do some serious homework.

PS: Went to Cochiti for a few hours this afternoon to try out my new board setup. Three fish, one in the boat (18" smallie). I'll send pics.

Welcome aboard, Brock (Brushpile),

Your advice is good & if you've just started logging on to WC, please share your knowledge / wisdom with us when you see questions posted.

My feeling on my "new-boat-to-be" is that should I learn from it that I really want something different in the future, I'll get it. Since Lunds hold their resale value so well, I'm not going to get hurt in the interim. And, I'll have a much better fishing platform than the 25-year old 14' trihull that I've used the past 3 years.

I sense a trend. As the Baby Boomers are aging, walk-through windshields seem to be increasing in popularity for wind / weather / water protection. Comments?

Brian (BRS1), I sent you a private e-mail that the Aurora, CO Lund dealer will try to work with you on your desire to buy a Lund hull & trailer and yet have an ABQ, NM dealer install a motor. Please check your e-mail; this seems to be your desired best of all worlds. Nice size that you reported for a northern New Mexico smallie at Cochiti!
