Dear Friends at Walleye Central:

As you most likely read in a post today, titled "Son w/leukemia Fan Club", one of our fishing friends is asking for help. I think she's come to the right place. And I CHALLENGE you to prove me right.

I would like to see us start a fund, on behalf of Justin, that goes to his familie's desired leukemia research fund.Or...?? I don't know the logistics involved in doing this but I'm sure Justin's mom, Alison, and some of US can help with that. Or...by choice of the family, a Justin Young, Walleye Central Scholarship fund, or a Justin Young, Walleye Central Conservation fund, to go to his home state of Louisiana DNR. Or.. Let Justin choose. WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN.

How?
Let me start, by offering two guided fishing trips for two people at Mille Lacs, to be purchased annually. All the funds going to this venture. $250/day. I challenge every guide and NPAA member, that comes to this WC site, to offer at least one day annually for this purpose. You guys put a value on your day's efforts.
I challenge every manufacturer that utilizes this WC site, to offer support to this venture.
And I challenge every Walleye Central fan to play a role as well.
I challenge Scott and the staff here to offer Alison help by posting this Challenge somehow for future donations and how to do so.

Friends...one of US is asking for help. Now, look around at all your fancy boats, high tech rods and reels, underwater camera's......and think about what's more important. The equivlant of 3 dozen nightcrawlers/year or a couple reefrunners/year is all I'm asking for Justin. That's the least we can do for one of US.

I will TRY to work this out with Justin's mom, Alison. In the meantime, IF any of you have experience at a venture like this, step up to the plate NOW.
Contact me at sf@mlecmn.net or Justin's mom who's address is listed in her request.
SET THE HOOK!! OUR HELP WILL KEEP JUSTIN IN THE "LIVE"WELL

Did you try to access the 3 web links on her message. They have nothing to do with Justin and his fish pictures, stories or nothing. Just wondering Steve. Thanks. If this is legit than I am with you all the way on this.

She is legit. She did this request last year on Lake-Link.com and several of the Lake-Link regulars took the boy and his mom fishing. They all posted their experience with this young man, and had nothing but good things to say about Justin and his Mom.

Since she is not requesting money from us, but rather only pictures and other mementos...her request would seem legit to me. Kuddos to Justin's Mom for making his life the best it can be. Last year when she did the request on Lake-Link, she didn't have all the celebs. she is noting now. Wow! She has been working her butt off to make this boy happy, and it's working! Happiness can be the best medicine sometimes. I pray he beats this illness. Best wishes Allison and Justin!

Steve, Scott Golden has set several of these programs up in the past for WC'rs that needed help. Contact him by email to see if he can set up another one for Justin.

Steve, I would be more than happy to help.
This disease hits close to home. In 1967, when I was 8, I lost my dad to Leukemia. At the time, they knew what the disease was, but had no real treatments for it. Any time I hear of someone with it, I think of my dad.
When you get a fund or something set up, let me know.

These are commedable sentiments. If you want to be involved in a project to raise cash for this purpose you can try and rely soley on the desire of others to gift cash, or property, but it would likely be more effective if the gift were also tax deductible. For this to happen you would need a tax exempt charitable organization to receive the funds and to pay them out as the donors intend. I am not aware of any such organization which has been formed by host's, or memebers, of this forum. In absence of such an organization the lady you speak of would probably be best served to look to a local community fund, church, or possibly hospital, already having an exemption, that would be willing to host such a fund and receive the contributions on her behalf. If you are suggesting that some sort of charitable foundation should be formed that too, might be a worthwhile project as well. There could possibly be a whole host of worthwhile causes that could be benafactors of the charity of walleye fisher persons.

I would also GLADLY donate a couple of one day trips on the Mississippi river for this GOOD CAUSE!!! When Steve, Scott, or whomever get the ball rolling and tells me what I can do to help, I'll be there. Scott knows how to get a hold of me or you can just look up the info in my profile. Hutch
