January 4, 2009 - Pine Point of Leech Lake
With up to 8″ of snow predicted to fall yesterday we got off easy with 1 or 2″ of fluffy snow. The snow we do have is becoming more compact and we are seeing less slush below the snow cover.
Right now we have our resort fish houses in front of the resort, the west side of Trader’s Bay, just 300 yards south of Pine Point. Our guests have been bringing in steady walleye and some perch. This week-end did not produce as many fish as last week-end, maybe due to the weather changes.
From here we have a great view of Stoney Point where there were at least a dozen shacks this week end. There is one road plowed from Stoney, although I hear you need to watch out for the ice ridges.
Walker Bay is not open for vehicles, one guest took his snowmobile out and got 4 walleye keepers yesterday evening in abut 17' of water with a glow jig and minnow head.
People still fishing the Shingobee Bay area for crappie and blue gill. Some places to get on the lake are Shingobee area, the southwest side of Trader’s Bay, Grand Vu Lodge (small fee) has a network of roads leading into the Grand View Flats area, also you can get out from the Walker City Park with atv’s and snowmobiles.
December 26 - January 1 Fishing Report (http://adventurenorthresort.com/blog/?p=39)
The ice conditions are getting better all the time. In the Pine Point area of Leech Lake we have about 17″ of ice with snow cover of about 10″ to 12 inches. Roads are beginning to be plowed and a network of driving lanes is beginning to appear, making it possible to get around on ATV’s, snowmobiles and 4WD vehicles. More roads will be open by next week-end. Hard water anglers are getting on the lake at Pine Point, southwest side of Trader’s Bay, Shingobee area and Walker city park.
Fishing in the Grand View Flats of the Walker Narrows and between Pine Point and Goose Island has been producing nice Jumbo Perch and Walleye. Jigging in about 17 to 18 feet of water with a glow rattler or jig both tipped with a minnow head. Shingobee area has been giving up nice crappie and blue gill.
