I know there has been a lot of info on underwater cameras, however I have yet to see much about ther use on Erie.I fish the Lorain area, the sandbar, reefs, etc. and am curious as to whether an aqua view would be an asset when drifting these areas. Also has anyone had much success by wieghing down the camera cable for use in trolling? Thanks Nick

I have an OVS underwater camera that I have tried around Marblehead and Kellys while perching. Water clarity in these areas near the bottom is nill. Couldn't see anything. I have used this system in inland lakes with good success while running my trolling motor or drifting. The water clarity towards the east end should be better, but I doubt you'd see much benefit while trolling. But most people on this board are pioneers, so maybe give it a try.

Lake Erie is a classic place to use the Aqua View, IF, the muddy water isn't in. I used it many times the last time I was there to identify fish/marks on the graph.(lol couldn't find'em in the tournament) You oughta see the zebra mussels!
The camera's come with weights for trolling or drifting. You can add more, for more speed. They also come with a fin attachment to help the camera look forward, when moving.
Clear Erie water...nothing better. Big wind/mud Erie water...useless. Using the camera while fishing is fine IF the depth isn't changing sharply. Otherwise you have to be ajusting the camera cable all the time, which is tough driving the boat and holding a fishing rod.

i use my aqua view on erie all the time when fishing smallies, its only good to 60ft cause thats all the cable i have but it works great, as far as the weight goes they sell a 1 lb weight that fits right on the bottom of the camera and it works while drifting but i have never tried it trolling.
