Anybody used this stuff for jigging?

I was thinking of going back to Mono for jigging, till I saw this stuff.
Now its a debate..
I've typically used the "tying of a leader" to the bright green fireline & it continues to be a pain........especially in clear water. My top eyelet on my rod always tends to hang up in the knot.....due to is small size.

I was thinking going back to XT or Big Game mono till this option..

But I see it's a braid? is that going to be good vs. the normal fireline?

This tracer option looks to be a good compromise for people who line watch like me. The bottom tied to the jig is moss green.

If You're concerned abou the "visability" of Fireline try this - color the last 18" - 24" of line with a permanent marker. Been doing this for years, and it sure beats messing with leaders. C-man

Yeah, ditto on the marker. I like red, black, or green the last several feet in clear water. Periodically has to be retouched, but that reminds me to retie in case of frays.

I'm not familiar with Trace.

I think I understand the purpose of coloring the last 18-24 inches.Just to make sure, does this make it less noticeable to the fish?Have tried braid types for jigging and it just seemed my bite ratio went way down vs clear mono but must say the sensitivity was awesome with the braid.

Southern,

The purpose of coloring the line is to make the user feel better regarding the perceived ability of the fish to see the line. Whether the fish make a determination to bite based upon line visibility is probably debatable. It probably depends on water clarity, the individual fish, number of fish in the area, bait used, aggressiveness, etc, and who knows what else.

I color the line because I feel I will be more successful by doing it. In not very clear water, I just use the line as is.

Good luck,

The Tracer braid does exactly what you are talking about already. Every two and a half feet the line changes from moss green to bright green and back again in another two and a half feet. This is so you can tie to the moss green and still see the bright green.

It works well and looks really cool coming off your spool when casting.

The other thing that is nice, is the fact that you now have a poor man's line counter. Everytime the line changes you can count by 5. Pretty easy to hit nice round numbers with no counter.

As far as being a braid, that is personal preference. I have been using mostly braids for a while now and do not see much difference in performance over FireLine. You can use heavier pound test and still get the smaller diameter. For example 10/4 FireLine would be equalt to 15/4 FireLine Braid.

John,
Thanks for the response.
So, the next question: I've been tying a clear mono to the end of my bright green fireline for the clear water jigging.

Does the moss green(2-3 foot sections)work as well as a florocarbon/clear mono for spooking fish?

I don't fish as much as you do, for sure. Just wondering if you see a difference?

ps: I thought the full spool of florcarbon was a pain in rump....

I "fat fingered" to post before I finished typing.

I'm definately a fan of fireline & from what you say, the braid is about the same. So my last "big question" is the clear water opinion. moss green vs clear mono/florcarbon & associated catch rates.

I normally do not tie a leader on my Fireline ever. I have caught tons of fish with the bright green line going directly to my lures.

I am sure that the moss green directly in front of the lure will help that some. In really clear water, you may still feel the need for teh floro leader.

Stuff like that is all about confidence. If you feel more comfortable with the floro leader, then use one. I am sure you will catch more fishing with what you believe in.

Just got a spool at a show I was doing! Looks like good stuff. I like the fact that it is actually round and not flat like fireline. I think it will work well for you. Also, I have questioned the Diameter of fused Fireline from time to time. It looks like the Tracer is on the gnats eye brow for line diameter. Stron stuff too. The spool they gave me is 20/6. I think the 15/4 will be awesome!
Anyone else out there used it yet. Got a lot of Ice to get through before I can give it a go...
