I have a St. Croix Premier baitcasting crankbait rod, 6'-6" medium power, moderate action. It's rated for 8 lb. to 14lb. line.

Keeping with the flexibility of the rod, I was planning on spooling the reel with 10 lb. Trilene XL or XT. Any thoughts on a different line for this application? (I know XT will have a little larger diameter which means the lure may not get as deep as with the XL.)

Thanks for your thoughts.

14/6 Fireline. This will get the cranks deeper if need be.

For myself, I would go with a no stretch line like any of the superlines given the moderate action of the rod. If it were a stiffer rod, I'd say go mono but your rod will be a sweet crank rod with fireline or something of the like.
Just my opinion of course.

Thanks for the replys.

I think I'll try the Sensation just for something different. I have a some 4/10 Fireline that will end up on another reel. It will be an easy swap to eventually try them both.

You might try some Super Silver Thread. It is a co-polymer line like Sensation, but I think it might be a litle bit less expensive. I have been using it for years and really like it. It too has a thinner diameter like the sensation so you can get a little deeper or use a little heavier line...jmo

Fireline or Suffix Performance Braid. The small line diameters really help you lure attain maximum depths.
