Im looking at installing a cd player and speakers on my 2000 619. Does anyone out there have any recommendations on speaker type / placement for the easiest installation?

You can go wild on that. I did a 2007 619 with Clarion 7.1 comp speakers under the consoles, 6.5 comp speakers up front, and a 4 channel amp. It sounded great.

Where did you mount the speakers up front? I have the standard Sony CD player that came with my boat but since it's a 4 channel head unit I was thinking about adding 2 more, won't need an amp the unit is plenty powerful for fishing tunes.

Well, I'm not totally familiar with the Sony's capabilities, but when you add a second set of speakers to a system on some other brand receivers it overloads them and you will burn up a board eventually. That is regardless of whether or not it's a 4 channel receiver.
There are a few locations they can be mounted, but 6.5" speakers typically only fit on the front of the consoles facing forward. You have to be close to the centerline of the boat to clear the baitwell and cooler lids. To do it right, you should make yourself a fiberglass enclosure on the back side (under the consoles).

Greta idea for location. What do the fiberglass enclosures do?

Joe,

Any chance you could post pictures of the radio and speaker installation? I'm also interested to know how many batteries you have in the boat. I would think the draw an the starting battery during a day of fishing with the electronics and livewell running would be quite the drain on the battery. I know a couple of guys that went with five batteries in their 620 and 621 to handle the load of electronics, live well pumps, marine radio and radio.

Thanks

I don't have any pictures of that one, I do quite a few audio installs in boats. I probably should start taking some pictures. The enclosure is air space for the speaker, they aren't "Free air" speakers so they need a specific air space in an enclosed area to sound right. That's pretty normal. You may need to add some support (I use Ranger's pultrusion) on any flat surfaces that don't normally need a lot of support to stop it from rattling when it's turned up loud too.
That boat only had one starting battery and he hasn't had any issues. Correct wire size for everything in the boat, spending the money on a good starting battery, and I put in an internal jumper system to one of his trolling motor batteries. If you anchor up and run your pumps all day with it cranked, yes, you're gonna have problems, but that can happen even without a stereo. He wanted to try it without adding the weight of a second starting battery first and it's worked well for his needs.
