Hi

The bite on Mille Lacs has been up and down - each day we talk to groups that crushed 'em the day before, and others that spent their time staring at the bobbers. The most consistent action so far this week has been around Sherman's Point, the north-end of the gravel and on the southern-most mud flats. In general, the more difficult it is to get to an area, the better the fishing has been and the longer it holds on. Once a 4-lane superhighway has been plowed to a spot, you can expect it to burn off quickly. There have been a lot of 10-11 inch walleye showing up - play them/handle them carefully... they're the future of Mille Lacs! Jiggin' Raps and Rattlin' Flyers have been good baits for your jig lines - the gliding action seem to be what the walleye want right now. Blue, black and fire tiger are the top colors. Jig these with a fathead or a piece of a fathead. The set lines have been OK in the evenings - a Gem-n-Eye with a small shiner (yes, we still have shiners, but the supply is tight) is the way to go after dark. 24-26 feet is the best depth. Most of the perch action has been around the southeast 1/4 of the lake. Some of these fish are coming out of 30+ feet of water already. Small Hawger Spoons with Eurolarva are the ticket there. Some stray northern continue to come out of Wahkon Bay - suckers in 12-14 feet are producing most of the action.

Yes, we still have shiners But... the supply is very tight. I'll write more about this over the next few weeks.

Finally, The teacher asked one of her young students if he knew his numbers. "Yes," he said. "I do. My father taught me." "Good. What comes after three." "Four," answers the boy. "What comes after six?" "Seven." "Very good," says the teacher. "Your dad did a good job. What comes after ten?" "A jack," says the little boy.

Have a great weekend,
