Ok I went out today and bought a GPS / Deapthfinder. I also picked up the Navionics Premium Hotmaps for Canada for my trip to Red Lake this summer. The problem is it will be 8-10 weeks befor I get the unit on the boat and in the water and Im not going to Canada until the last week of July, so it will be a long time before I get to play with my new toys. So I am wondering if I can put the Navionics card in my card reader and at least look at the Canada maps, or will I mess it up? This is the first time I have had one of these and I know nothing. Thanks

Hook that baby up and start looking and learning.I have turned my gps (not installed on boat yet)on inside the home by hooking the power cord up to my ice fishing flasher battery several times then just setting it to "inside" which will disable satellite search and look at the maps just as if I was on the lakes.Just a heads up DO NOT attempt to download the navonics chip as it has a program to erase if you attempt to.Just view and use do not attempt to copy it.

get a 12volt transformer (radio shack), and hook it up
at home (or use a 12volt battery). Learn how to use
your new electronics in the comfort of you home.
Very easy, just be sure to fuse it.
