My 215X w/ 300 Verado has a pronounced vibration/hum when in forward gear- from about 800 to 2200 RPM. I have tried three different (3) bladed props and one (4) bladed prop- all producing the same vibration/hum. It has done this from the very first time I ran the boat (brand new). The motor seems to be running fine, although I have not taken it to a shop and had it tested (faulty ignition?). Anyone else have this going on? All answers, ideas, and comments are welcome. Thank You.

Prop shaft/bearing bent or out of line?

do you know which hub kit you are using? This almost sounds like the dreaded prop-rattle that the Flo-Torq IV kit is supposed to help with?

The vibration would be the issue I'd be concerned about. All Verado's hum, that's the noise they make to know it's already started.

Is the vibration only when in gear, or does it exist at fast idle too? I've had very little time in a boat with a 300, I've got a 275 - they don't vibrate.

If it vibrates only when in gear, I'd look at the drive train, bent prop shaft like has already been mentioned. If it vibrates in Neutral, plugs? I'd have the dealer hook it up if it's vibrating in neutral.

Either way, you should have warranty coverage, get it in to a certified V mechanic.

I am using the supplied Flo-Torq II hub kits I received with my brand new props. My boat/Verado only makes this "thrumm" when in gear when the RPM is something above 700+. It does not vibrate at idle or just off idle. I have not checked it out when in reverse. The engine powerhead itself does not seem to be the source of the vibration. It does feel like a good guess is an out of balance prop/drive shaft. Originally I thought it must be the prop. After trying four different props, now I think it is probably not the prop. Seems kind of odd to have a brand new outboard with a bent or out of balance drive shaft- but I suppose the reality is things like this can happen.

What I am concerned of is the possibility of the 215X hull itself having a propensity to vibrate when in operation. I suppose and hope that this is not a hull issue, but I do wonder. Do any of you other Triton 215 owners have this problem in any way? Knowing this will allow me to start to eliminate possible sources/causes of the vibration.

I'll get my rig to a Verado certified shop and have them check this out asap. Thank you for your replys so far.

Had the same problem with my 215 with a 250xs.Mine has the Fat Shaft with the solid Flo-Torq hub and it would rattle at idle, if you look at the hub there are 4 strips of rubber and their job is to stop the vibration. Ask your dealer you can get replacements. Paul

Sounds like motor harmonics transfering through the boat at this rpm. I suspect when you kick it in high rpm it is smooth and you have a smile or start to giggle with excitement.

That's about right- it is an amazingly nice boat/motor combo.

Possibly the vented prop is causing this. Uneven slippage when it is venting the most? All of my vented prop boats have had some vibration at lower RPM's in gear. I wonder if this is the same thing?

I can tell you right now it isn't the boat and it isn't the venting in the prop. Take it to a Verado certified dealer and have them check it out, you can look on Mercury's website to find what dealers are certified or if your in the Fond du lac Wisconsin area bring it in and we'll figure it out.

Good luck!
