View Full Version : Traveling with Dipseys
When moving from one place to another on the lake what seems to be the best way to stow rods rigged with with Dipseys?

You'll have to learn what we call the Lorain Wrap. I don't know if i could discribe it well enough on here. It's easy and works great. Any time your in the area keep your eyes on how some of the boats that have 20 rods on there rocket launchers have there dipseys secured. You'll need to be using snubbers and a velcro tie wrap to do this.
No easy way. If you can, put them on the floor and get them out of the wind that will keep them from spinning. Bring the line around the reel and hook to a rod guide brace if your lead is longer than the rod.

Dan, the best I have been able to come up with is, I use a snubber off the dipsy to the leader so, I unclip one end of the snubber, wrap it around the rod handle a couple of times and then clip it to itself. I then take the leader with the bait still attached and clip the bait through one of the eyes on the poles pulling as much slack as possible out of the leader. Then take the slack out of the line by cranking the reel.

Here's how we do it. Maybe it's Airwaves Lorain wrap, maybe not, but it works.
Hook the lure (spoon stickbait or harness)into the bottom guide of the rod. From the lure wrap the leader around the reel housing. When you get to the snubber pull it out some to creatte some pressure and hold the leader on the reel. Now ahead of the Dipsy put a velcro strap around the lines to keep the Dipsy stable. You can put this into a rocket launcher and run as hard as you like without problems. Good luck.
I use pipe cleaners. Tie up booth ends of the dipsy. Ray
I've only traveled with two Dipseys, my first wife and then the second. The snub nose, ah' snubber, can come in handy, and the velco strap can keepem' still for awhile. Never thought about putting them in a rocket launcher ! Sorry guys, I've been in lockdown too long. Good question though !

Wedge the dipsey between the reel and the rod butt. Then flip the rod so the reel is facing away from your side of the rod. Wrap the line around the outer shell of the real and bury the hooks of your bait in the rod handle. When you unhook the bait to use the rod turn the coiled line side of the reel toward the direction you intend to toss the bait. When you toss bait the line will peel off just like a spinning reel. Charter captain out of Port Colborne showed me this one.
