I talked to a Mercury dealer at a boat show today about a price on a 9.9 Pro Kicker. He said that there would be a 8.0% price increase March 1st. I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything about the increase.
That would come to about $240.00 or more on the price he quoted me.

You would think with the world wide decrease in the number of motors sold that they would offer lower prices. I just ordered a new 40hp Merc 4-stroke and nothing was said about price increases. The warranty from Mercury was increased from 3 years to 5 years, maybe they are using that as an incentive to buy.

What kind of a price did the dealer give you that would add on another $240 with an 8% increase? Cabelas now has Merc motors in their 09 master fishing catalog. I just looked on their website and the Mercs aren't on there yet. They did have a 9.8 Nissan ($1859) and a 9.9 Johnson ($1799). That should give some idea on what to pay for a Mercury.

I obtained prices that ranged from $2795.00 to $3450.00 + sales tax. Cash and carry sale, no installation included. Four different dealers . All in the past week. Only one dealer include unpacking and test running it.
I am pricing a Mercury 9.9 Pro Kicker ELHPT - "20 shaft

I received an email from Cabela's today. The price on the Pro Kicker goes up 10% next month.

the $2795 looks pretty competitive from what I've seen online and in ads.

Those motors (and numbers) aren't really comparable to a Pro-Kicker.
Pro-Kickers are electric start, high thrust and have power tilt.
Plus in the majority of cases there would be a control box and cables figured in the price...from a dealer.

To raise prices at a time when sales are already stagnant due to the economy? Guess all the layoffs and plant closings by Brunswick is still not enough to meet their profit goals.

Maybe Mercury sees a great opportunity since Evinrude is not offering a kicker in their line up. What will the Evinrude Pro's do?

Same thing they have done in the past. Johnson 9.9 on a Panther, and an engine mount Minn Kota.

Check your facts before posting please. The whole problem is that the Johnson kicker is history. As in no more. As in gone for good. meaning they are no longer available. Not made any more.

Guess I could get along without a product that goes up 10% in the worst economy since the great one!

Not just yet are they history. 9.9 Johnson kickers are still available.

Still available? Johnson never had, and still doesn't, have a real kicker. Although I see Suzuki now has one. I wonder if Johnson will have that one available in the future. Or are they just going to wait for the ETec kicker that was promised in 07.

My dealer said he had seen prototypes of a 15 hp e-tec kicker. Rumor he got was...BRP wanted to see what the market was like for their 25-30 hp e-tec's before jumping into full production with any smaller motors.

Not entirely sure where the truth lies in a release of an e-tec kicker...but the lean burn function during idle would be pretty amazing to have.

Funny you mention "BRP wanted to see what the market was like for their 25-30 e-tec's" -- BRP still does not have their 25's on the market yet. Were promised to dealers in October early November now its supposed to be April... and that was told to the dealers just before BRP announced major cut back/slow down of mfg of motors at their China factory and guess where the 25-30's are being built?

At this rate it might be the 2011 model year before you see the 10-15 E-tecs.
