outrigger placement

I have 18' outriggers that I want to put on my 26' Islander hardtop and I was wondering were would be best place to mount them. I have the gunnel mounts and was thinking of putting them about 1' foreward of the back of the hardtop. What you think? Got tired of jet skies and other boats running over my planer-boards, you think something 3'x1' and very bright green would sick out but they do it. Thats why I went with the outriggers, and should keep gear straight with the boat.
