Can any body tell me what would be the choice leader length for handlining.and is it a good idea to mix small shad raps on short leaders with shallow divers running back a bit further. and how far up the shank I should hook in with either linealso what would be the best weight line for leaders.IF I missed something let me know}>

This should get you a lot of replies, but I will start it. Only use shallow diving lures on handlines. the bottom lead should be 1\2 the length of the top lead and start with one at about 20" from the bottom of the weight and the second about 2' above that one. This should have a floating Rapala about 2-3" off the bottom. Move them up and down until your catching fish.
For line, I use heavy stuff 20-25# stiff mono. Use a #12 snap on one end and a small coastlock where the lure hooks up. Then if you hang up, the snap will fail and you won't lose the whole works.
This should get you started.

My favorite all-around combo's are, 10/20, 15/30 or 20/40. These combo's are dependant on what size stick bait your running as well as the current and boat speed. I'm with Bruce on the stiff line and snaps. You have to remember to keep moving the leads around till you find the magic combination. As far as mixing shallow raps with stick baits, it will work. But by my expereince I've found it better to run one or the other, not both, but that's just my opinion. It takes patience and persistence. But once you put the wining combo together it sure is gratifying. Good luck, Hutch
