According to my boat brochure it states that my boat has a 12/24 trolling motor outlet at the bow but I only have one set of wires into the battery tray (1+, 1-). I know my previous Lund had 2 sets of wires, should I have another set to run a 24V motor or do I run ? guage wire from 1 battery to the other? I previously had a 12V system hooked up but I am now going to a 24V. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all, try to follow the wires from the battery compartment back to the socket, and make sure there's not a 3rd or 4th wire hiding somewhere. If not, the (-) lead goes to the negative of one battery, the (+) lead goes to the positive of the 2nd battery, and yes, you'll need a 6 gauge jumper between the 2 remaining battery terminals. But, certainly double-check that you have 24volts at the socket BEFORE you plug in your TM. Do you have the matching plug to attach to your motor leads? How many pigtail wires on that plug, or is it a direct-wire style?

I have not purchased a 24V motor yet, but had sold my 12V motor that came with the boat. That motor had the plug (male) that plugs into the receptacle at the bow. There is only one set of wires on the back side of the receptacle leading to the battery tray. Do most newer trolling motors come with the plug or do you directly hard wire the motor?

You'll have to buy a new (male) plug. There are different styles, with different gauge wires. Is your dealer close by, I'm sure he can get you a matching plug. If not, we'll work thru it, with pics and such. Look here: http://www.rigritemfg.com/trolling.shtml does this look like any of them?

No there are none there that resemble the plug I'll need. I guess when the time comes to mount a new motor on I'll swing by the dealer to get thier input. They are a dealership that sells all sorts of trailers, sleds, boats etc so thier knowledge to one thing in specific is minimal at times. I find asking people like yourself on this board more bennificial and trust worthy. Thanks alot for your help and I'm sure I'll be back asking more ?'s.

If you want, post a picture of the socket, I'm sure somebody will recognize it.

On my Alumacraft boat the male plug has an internal jumper that is relocated for 12 or 24v. There are only two exit wires for the t/m connection.
I had to change voltage when I installed a new Minn Kota terrova trolling motor.
