View Full Version : Anyone Share a Lowrance Log File?

I'm playing with the emulator for my Lowrance 522 and I am getting tired of looking at that same water over and over. Would anyone share a sonar chart log with me so I can have a change of scenery? I promise I won't show up in your favorite spot next spring!

Have you been able to get a log file to display on the emulator? I've tried a few tiems, but no go - it doesn't recognize that the file is in the directory....I've had to download and install the seperate sonarviewer software to view the log file.....

You have to place the .slg sonar recording file in the Maps0 folder, which is in the same directory the emulator is installed in.

Like SonarMan said the Maps0 folder is supposed to be a virtual SD card for the emulator. Although, I tried putting a waypoint file in there and the emulator could not see them.

That's been my issue with both the 332 and the 520 emulator. It will not read from the Maps0 folder.....

Copy the USR-file to the Maps0-directory
Navigate in the MENU to SYSTEM SETUP
TRANSFER DATA
LOAD
and load the USR-data.
From now on you can select the waypoints, routes etc... from the USR-file.

How do you record .usr files? I have .slg files recorded while doing testing over dense weeds. Those are what I cannot load into the emulator - have to use the seperate Sonar Viewer program.

For the waypoints I tried what Danny suggested but when I select TRANSFER MY DATA I get an error message that says "You must first insert an MMC card". The Map0 folder is good and has stuff in it so I don't know why it is doing that.

If I remember well, it does work with an emulator from the 330 series (332,334,337) but not with the 520 series.

The 330 - emulators have some funcions built in, that don't work anymore with later model emulators.

This way it is also possible (when you have a Lowrance or LEI-card reader) to view Navionics maps in the emulator, save waypoints, transfer (SAVE) to the Maps0-folder and copy to an SD-card for later use in the real unit.

Press MENU twice
Last option : Browse Files
Enter
Then you should see all files in the Maps0-directory
Select the SLG-file you want
ENTER
select PLAY button
ENTER
and the selected SLG should play in the emulator.
If not, try installing another emulator. It does work with me (Windows XP-computer)
BTW, be sure to select the SONAR screen and not the MAP screen ...

Emulators are all different and were created at different times so they have different software than the latest updates so your menus may look different. Some emulators allowing importing of waypoints and some allow viewing slg files off a Lowrance card reader and some allow reading slg files in the Maps0 folder. If one doesn’t work for you download a different one and test it.

Thanks Danny and Bruce -
This thread caused me to spend more time poking at it, and I found what was leading me astray.
1. The emulator shows the entire path name to the file in maps0 ("C:\Program Files\Lowrance\....") etc. Not enough screen space to get to the actual file name, so they all appear to be named the same. Once loaded, the file name does display at the top of the screen.
2. The emulator shows the file size, but it rounds it off differently than windows - so there is some hunt and peck to find the file that is kinda close in size to what you put out there. Going by listed file size may lead you to assume your file is not showing.

So now, I can relive that day in September when I cruised back and forth over the milfoil, to see if the unit would loose bottom or not. Yeah!

Seriously, it will now be very handy to review spots from time to time.

Now if there was a way to correlate it with a recorded track, so I could mark waypoints for future investigation...that would be so cool.....

Some emulators allow you to create waypoints as you play back the slg file. You can also get the coordinates from the cursor pop up box in the SonarViewer.

Set the emulator in splitscreen : SONAR + MAP
Go to SONAR emulator in het MENU
Make sure you mark SONAR SIMULATOR on
and SIMULATE POSITION
and choose a SLG file to play.

In the MAP section of the splitscreen you now can see the track passing by
If you have a Navionics of NauticPath card in de Lowrance/Lei cardreader, you can see this map as well.
