Yes, we are very excited, our first opportunity to move up north has come! We have lived in the southern part of MN all our lives and this is what we have been looking forward to for a LONG time.
Just wondering if anyone has any input on the area. We may need temporay housing, I thought this might be a good place to get any words of advise or warnings. all responces will be greatly appreciated.

I have spent a majority of my leisure time within 20 miles of Bemidji over the last 16 years. Tremendous variety of fisheries from Lake Bemidji itself to Cass/Winnie/Leech/Upper Red and dozens of beautiful smaller lakes all within reach of an afternoon trip. Usually if you want to avoid a crowd it is still possible in the region. Lots of public land too. Some day I will retire to the region. As far as housing, lots of variety depending on in town/country living, etc. As you get to the rural areas, you will quickly see the downside of a lack of a uniform building code, but there is some really nice stuff too. Good luck with the move, I'm sure you will enjoy the area.

Rocketman it's a colledge town so most rental units that are in town are hard to get and rent is high.
I was raised out by Solway and once you get 10 miles or more out of town the rent will go down.
There are also trailer courts with rentals in them that may be a good temp housing for the rest of winter.

It might not be such a bad idea to look around Upper Red Lake.
That will be closer to work than Bemidji (and close to huge Crappies)
There are lots of places that are vacant. Check with some of the
Waskish or Kelliher people and see what you can come up with to
rent or buy. Property values will increase in the next 8 years
or so when the area start rocking with huge Walleyes. It might be
a good investment to boot.
Good luck with whatever you come up with

Take a peek at the Bemidji website--www.ci.bemidji.mn.us--check out the links from there. The visitors center and the chamber of commerce may have some things to help. Also check out www.paulbunyan.net--it's a local ISP with a section called "local attractions". You will like it here a LOT! Bemidji is probably the most under-advertised fishing/hunting area is the state.

I went to college in Bemidji, lived there for a few years. My in-laws live there and I am always returning to the area on most weekends. The fishing/hunting is great! I just can't find a job there....
Check the local paper (The Pioneer) in Bemidji online. I have found the paper online before, but don't remember the address. Real estate is really reasonable in the area, rent is killer. I would highly recommend buying a place outside of town. I lived in town one year and hated it, because of some crime problems I had to deal with.
