Those of us with Lowrance sonar or GPS that use SD chips for memory may care about this.

I noticed today that Staples was advertising SD chips on sale. The important thing about the ad was that all the chips on sale were the SDHC type- that's the type that DO NOT WORK with the pre-HDS Lowrance units. I don't know what type the HDS units can use.

I have been putting away a few of the older style SD chips, 1 GB or 2 GB. I see fewer of these offered for sale every time I shop Staples or Office Max- last time both stores were out of the SanDisk brand Lowrance recommends. It worries me a bit that these will eventually be hard to find and I have 2 sonars and a GPS that require them.

Recently picked up a bunch of these chips with the same thoughts you have. Searched for them on the www--and found places to buy at substantial discount. You can specify Sandisc for the Lowrance units.
Email if you need more info.

I'm pretty sure WalMart carries them.

Juls I also look to WallyWorld for these chips, very often the cheapest.

What I am doing now is buying only the MSD/SD converter chips so I can use them in Micro SD (MSD) applications and Secure Data (SD) card slots as well.

I am fairly certain we will see more date being interfaced by these MSD chips as new models pop out, this is the direction most are headed. I also suspect most units will also be there own card readers, like Garmin uses now, eliminating peripheral secondary card readers all together.

This way with the combo MSD/SD chips, I have the flexibility of use for cameras, cell phones, Garmin GPS hand held/Marine Sonar/GPS units, CrackBerrys,...yada-yada..ect..ect...who knows what next.
