Would appreciate some Opinions on the Tackle I plan on purchasing for Trolling.

1. 2 Daiwa SG27LCW reels matched up with 2 St. Croix GT80MH2 Pro Glass Rods
2. 2 Cabelas Fish Eagle II 7' MH 2 pcs Casting Rods to match up with 2 Abu Garcia Tournament Pro TP5600C Casting Reels that I already have.
3. Off Shore Side Planner ProPack including two Tattle Flag upgrade kits.
4. 3 of each size Shad Raps SR7, SR8, & SR9 in Perch,Gold,& Silver
5. 5 Reef Runner's in various colors.

I plan on using the two St. Croix / Daiwa SG27 setups with 14# Fireline on the in line planners
The two 7' rods with the standard casting reels I plan on using for Flatlineing
Cranks. Also for bottom bouncers and crawler rigs spooled with 10# Trilene XL.
Plan on marking the line on the casting reels at 50,100,150, & 200 feet.

Will also be using this equipment for occasional trips to the Jersey Shore for Strippers.

Question: What size clips should I use on the Planner Boards to hold the Fire Line
And how much backing will I need to fill the SG27's using 125yds of
Fire Line on each reel.

Thanks Rick

Rick,
I think you are fine with those choices.

Clips should be with the snapper OR 18 (snapper)or OR 19s to hold the fireline.

The reel fill question: Fill the first reel with fireline on first. Then top the spool off with the mono backer. Then you know how much mono it takes. Tie the mono on reel #2 and fill that reel. The only problem with this is the fact that the line counter will not be accurate with the Fireline right down at core, and you must some measure that line (I go to the high school football field). Tie the fireline on one goal post and lay it out, to the desired length, and crank it on.

A tip on mono backer under any superbraid: The mono needs to go on under 2 or 3 times the normal tension, to get it tight enough to hold up under the superbraid. otherwise it will compress, and cause problems.

Good luck.

Sounds like you've been doing your "Walleye Central" homework. If you'd been given a test on WC recommendations you'd have scored 100. The only step left is to quit being a guest user and become a registered member. Let us know if all these tips work.

Yes I have been putting the search engine at WC to good use.
After reading all the posts on LC Reels and Trolling Rods
I put together a package that I think will serve my purpose.
Never seen so much great information, from people who truly care.

Already have Precision Trolling, and Catch More Walleyes. Trolling
From Top to Bottom is in the mail.

Appreciate your opinions, knowing I have the right tools for the job
lets me concentrate on the work at hand. ( Catching Big Walleyes )

Thanks
Rick

Two things. First use XT for trolling not XL. THe Xt holds up a little better. Secondly, you don't need to mark your line on the 5500's just count passes. Measure how much line comes off the spool as the level wind goes across the face of the reel. Then count how many of those you have out to get the desired lead. Next, half hitch a rubber band there to mark your spot. This is a trick I even use withmy counters in case they get reset accidentally. The rubber band will reel right in.

Good Luck

Rick,
I used a similar set-up with my baitcasters last summer. Tried those clip-on Shakespeare line counters and they worked great. I always lose count when I count passes. Just another option. Good luck.

I found I can wind on 1000' of Trilene XT 12#, which leaves just enough room for a 100 yard spool of PowerPro 30#.
