Anyone have an idea if I would get a slower troll from a Merc Prok Kicker 9.9 or a Yamaha T8?
I realize you can change props to adjust speed somewhat and use a drift sock/pail but with the standard props that come on these motors I'm wondering which one would give me best the low end speed.

How slow do you want to go? I have a T8 and it can troll slow.
Maybe under 1.0 mph. I have to think back to last year, but if I remember
correctly for 2.25 mph GPS I run the T8 at about 1500 rpm.
I don't know what it would be at idle speed. Maybe 0.75mph.
You can also adjust speed with the tilt.
If you tilt it up high enough to just run the water pump, it would go real slow.
I have a Crestliner 1850 Sportfish.

I have an 1800 Fisherman with a 9.9 Pro Kicker and on a calm day it trolls at idle .9 to 1.0 mph by GPS. I don't know anything about a t8, but I do like the dual water pickup on a 9.9 Pro Kicker.

Thanks for the info.

I have a pro kicker on an 1800 pro v. I struggle to get below 1.1 or 1.2 mph. Are there adjustments I can make besides a new prop?

On calm water I can get down to .8-1.0 depending how much I'm being pushed. (21 ft Ranger) I have tiller controls on mine, if I click it just into gear it will be a tad faster, you have to turn it back to the point where it will almost shut off, small movement of the handle but it does slow it down a couple tenths. I picked up a trollmaster pro digital I hope it doesn't screw with it because I'm happy, I hope it let's me dial it in even better.

An easy way to do this is to drop your bowmount (or a transom mount troller) and turn the head sideways. That provides enough drag to slow you down a couple of tenths.

you can also tilt the kicker up a bit as long as the water pickup is still in the water

I put my big motor into gear as well, knocks off a tenth or two.
I have found the best way to slow a boat down is with 2 25" drift socks off the front cleats . I do this whether I really need to slow down or not. It is a big help in keeping the bow down, which helps the boat track better. I'll also put the big motor in gear as stated. I also use Drop n Stays to reduce the shock on the cleats. It really shines when the wind has you going faster than you want to go. Use the bowmount only for steering. Great system.

I have a ProKicker on a 1800 Pro V and can get down to .5 on GPS on calm day. Turned idial screw down a a pit. But the simple answer is you should be happy with ProKicker.
