the way i learned was finding step by step illustrations off the net. after i got the hang of it, i found that putting the hook in a fly-tying vise made it much easier. if you don't have a vise, it's still pretty easy to tie but a lot harder on the fingers.

Have at least a three inch diameter in the loop and the end of the line should be about 2-3 inches past the eye. The illustrations provided with most directions are not alway proportional. Wet the line before slowly pulling the knot together.

Step 1: Hook eye to your right and shank to left thread end of line thru eye till about 1 inch is over shank of hook. Step2: Hold tag end against shank and wrap main line behind the eye and around shank about 5 times, going back with each wrap (keep tight. Step3: Thread main line back thru eye from left to right and pull tight. Sounds complicated but rather easy and quick.

there are books on fishing knots at the local library look up snells.

I thread the line through the hook then make a loop pinch it with thumb and forefinger wrap the tag end five times around the shank then through the loop pull tight being careful not to cut the line on a barb.they look just like the eagle claw snells when done usually have enough tag to tie on a second hook.

I tied up some spinners using this knot with 14lb XT. While this knot is very easy to tie, it seems like once the tension is taken off the knot that it can loosen up a lot. Any suggestions on keeping the knot on the last hook tight?

Another method of tying a snell, which was suggested in the post above, while more involved to tie seems like it would better lock the knot down and not loosen up.

Do yourself a favor and look at one of those Rudy's Snell tyer gizmos. I've used mine to tie hundreds of snells pretty darned quick. Much easier on the fingers with them little sharp gamma hooks, fast and easy, and knots never loosen up like some hand-tieds.

Hey guys a local fisherman just wrote an article http://www.walleyesinc.com/walleyeinc3/howtotie.html about tying crawler harnesses and snells. I have tied rigs this way for twenty-five years now without any gizmos. I typically use 14lb XT and have zero problems over the years. Hope it helps you out.

Get yourself a Stren knot tying book they show 2 snell knots. I like tying spinner rigs for twister tails. When I started it took a few rigs before I got the hang of tying the snells. I hold the hooks in small C clamps but fly tying vice would be better. Berkley also has a knot book. Good luck good fishing.
