How can I tell if my primer ball is functioning properly. I have a Yamaha F75 and it took a long time to start late last season and suspect maybe the prime wasn't working well.

For a few bucks you can buy a new primer bulb. If the new one works then you know the old one was bad.

put the bulb vertical, pump several times until bulb is hard. If the bulb doesn't get hard, then it's not working properly and a new one is in order. How old is your other one? I have read where ethonal drys out the seals/rubber and replacing every so often is a good idea.
