I'm looking to get a new rod for pitching light jigs, 1/16- 1/8oz on 6 lb line. I'm looking at a St.Croix Tournament Walleye Series 6'6" medlight fast and a Avid 6'3" medlight extrafast. The TWS is rated 1/8-3/8 and the Avid is rated 1/16-3/8. Which is a better rod for pitching?

I've been researching pitching rods myself. From what I've read and heard most guys prefer 6'6" to 6"8" rods. The extra length is better for casting and hooks sets are better if you have a lot of line out.
I use a 6'6" Avid Medium that works well and also a 6'6" Fenwick HMG Medium Light. Both work fine for me.
I would look at a the 6'8" MXF Legend Tournament, as well if I were you.

I went thru all the research last year on the same rod and ended up getting a G. Loomis SJR721, custom built at Thorne Bros, extended out to 6'3". The bill came to a little over $250, but I upgraded to SiC guides since I used braided line. This rod has a very sensitive tip but enough backbone to move fish around. I couldn't be happier. I've got a Stradic 1000 on it and with 8lb fireline and it's a very well balanced setup.

i too was shopping for a good jigging rod this year. i ended up getting a avid 70mlf and put a pflueger supreme 8030 on it. i havent got to use it yet but pitchn around the yard im impressed. the reel is awsome for the money. it compares to a stradic. a local sports shop had the st croix's on sale for 40% off so i bought the 7footer and than went back and got his last 2 avids in a 70mlf 2 piece and a 68mxf casting. i originally thought i wanted a 63mxf but after handling the 70mlf i think it will work better from the boat...get more distance and more rod to load up if get a heavy fish. i ordered another 8030 supreme and quantum code for the other 2 rods. if you're looking for good deals on reels go to'' http://stores.shop.ebay.com/poor-fish-store__W0QQ_armrsZ1 '' sometimes they have different prices on same reels and some reels have free shipping while others dont....not sure why but prices and shipping changes often so keep checking back till they got it right. i got the supreme for 79.99 and the code for 69.99 with free shipping on both. unfortunetly i dont have website for bargains on st croix or g loomis for ya.

I have a Avid 60mf with a 1000 Stradic fi, TWS 63mxf with a 1000 Stradic mgfb, Avid 70mlf with 1000 Stradic fi, TWS 70mlf with a 1000 Stradic mgfb and a Crucial 60mlf. I like the 6' medfast avid for vertical jigging 1/4oz and bigger jigs. I love the TWS 63mxf for vertical jigging with 1/8 and bigger jigs. It pitches 1/8 oz jigs well too. The two seven footers are my lindy rods. I really like the avid but absolutly love the TWS. I've used this rod for casting jigs when i wanted to really get a long cast. It works awesome for that. My biggest walleye came like this. 32" 12 lb 11 oz.
The rod i'm looking for is one for pitching light jigs, 1/8 and under(mostly 1/16), underhanded with accuracy to specific targets. I've seen a TWS 66mlf but it is only rated 1/8-3/8. Havn't fished one though. The avid 63 mlxf i figure should be like my TWS 63mxf but with a little lighter of a tip. I havn't had my hands on this rod and would have to order it.

I too use the Avid 6'3" rod with the extra fast tip with a Stradic 1000. I also have a Loomis Walleye Series rod, I don't know the model number but it's 6'2" long and rated for jigs 1/16 to 3/16. Both are excellent rods for pitchin lighter jigs. The only problems I have with the lighter jigs is trying to fish them cross wind when it's blowin pretty good, and I don't think there is a rod made that can help you out there. I also have some 7 and 7 1/2 foot rods rated for lighter jigs, but they are too slow for me on the hookset--too much like a buggy whip

Do you have the 63mlxf or mxf?

How small of jigs do you use with this rod?

G. Loomis IMX SJ781.
I also build a lot of SJ721 GLX's and extend them out to 6'6".
For pitching jigs, I certainly prefer a longer rod than for vertical jigging.
If the Avid level of graphite is OK for you...check out the 63MLXF. Note the L in there...I'm not talking about the 63MXF.
