With the BPS "classic" coming up, was planning on getting two of your rods in combo with Daiwa SG27lc's when they go on sale. The new Gold Cup reel sure looks nice though, and the price is even nicer! Quite a temptation!! Am re-thinking. I know you guys have tested it pretty thoroughly and have given it the P&K "seal of approval" for walleyes. My application will include a little Lake Michigan fishing for kings as well. Do you think, with the extra workout these "screamers" will give, that the Gold Cups will still be comparable with the Daiwa's (smooth drag, etc.)? Would I be asking them to do too much?
By the way, I've learned a lot from you both over the years. You've made me a much better fisherman. Thanks for sharing what works.

Hi Woodsdweller,
Sorry for taking so much time to reply. Both Keith and I have been on the road and I just got back last night. I would say the new Gold Cup line counters would serve your needs just fine. The reel is built by the same OEM company that builds the Daiwa Sealine series of reels...so the reel frames are very similar. The drags seem to function identical to the Daiwa's and fighting kings or rainbows should be no problem. There is no doubt that the reel is an unbelievable value at $59.98 and I still can't believe that they have combo'ed it up with the walleye angler signature series rod for $79.99
If I can be of further help please let me know. Gary Parsons

Where did you see this combo at? I looked on the BPS website and saw the rods and the reels, but no combo. I have a gift certificate for BPS that expires on 3/31 and this may be exactly the ticket to spend it on.
Thanks,
Roger

I checked the Bass Pro web site and see that they do not the combo listed. That means you will have to order the combo thru their catalog or at one of their stores. GP

Thanks for the info. Which catalog is it listed in. I have the master catalog at home and a few others from BPS.
The combo's were in the 2002 master catalog. They're right towards the front of the catalog in the first few pages of fishing equipment. I picked up a couple and they seem alright. I'll let their performance on the water speak before I start passing judgement. Good or Bad.. RJ in Montana

Gary,
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll still pick up two Daiwa combos, and with such an awesome price, will also pick up two combos with the Gold Cup linecounter. After I give 'em both a good testing this spring I'll let everyone how it went.
Good fishin',
