50 and 60 merc are basically the same motor. I have a similar boat - 17ft lund outfitter (wilderness series just like the alaskan) with a 50 and I will get 32 with 3 adults and a fair amount of gear. You will love your boat. It is so versatile. Big enough to fish bigger waters and small and light enough for you to get yourself into trouble hunting and fishing or just exploring. Have fun.

I had a 1600 Lund explorer a few years back. It had a 60 hp efi 4 stk merc...The explorers are alittle heavier and wider than your boat but I was pullin 33-34mph by myself and my gear. 30mph fully loaded with myself and two other adults......GOOD PURCHASE!!! you will love it!

How long and what thrust trolling motor would you recommend for a bow mount? Thank you for all responses!! Andy

It depends how much weight you put in front. I have a 52" Shaft and it was running good when I have all Batteries and Charger in the front compartment. Ever since I move them to the back, 52" will Blow out when wind stronger than 30km/h. The way I look at trust, its Space for extra battery, Highest poundage that I can affort in that V range. 55lbs for 12V, 80lbs for 24 and 101 for 36V
