All you guys that troll spoons, which do you prefer-cranks or spoons? What are the usual trolling speeds with spoons? I troll cranks frequently but have never trolled spoons for walleyes. In fact the last time I trolled spoons was for northern pike when I was a kid. What types & color of spoons do you prefer? Is there a time of year you find they work better? I used to troll cranks mainly in the fall but have found they work very well spring, summer & fall. Is it the same for spoons?

When the Great Lakes guys get a hold of this they'll chime in. However, I fish inland lakes and have given spoons some run time. They are really an overlooked presentation on many inland waters.

Yes, they will catch fish - sometimes outproducing cranks. I like to run spoons behind snap weights at speeds of 1.5 to 2.0. Stingers are what I use mostly, but others will work as long as they wobble good at the speed used. Try running them just under the surface during dog days. Be sure to use a high quality barrel swivel to prevent massive line twist. Very easy to work with, give it a try this year. On some lakes the fish just haven't been exposed to spoon trolling programs.

Thanks for the info. I'm always willing to try another way to put fish in the boat. I really do like trolling cranks so maybe we'll troll a line with spoons this year and see what happens. I fish all inland lakes also & had never heard of that method until reading some posts by the great lakes guys.
