Getting a new Ford F150 next week, if there is a place to ask a question this the place. Anyway I have always in the past on new vehicles changed oil after the first couple hundred miles, I am a oil change fanatic, any thoughts on when to change oil on a new vehicle? I am planning on going to Amsoil after it is broke in what would you recomend is a good break in mileage?
Thanks moreyes

I always changed the oil in my new vehicles at 1000 miles. Thereafter every 3000. I too am a oil change queer. I would think after 7500 the metals would be seated properly. Good luck on the new purchase.

Ditto on the 1000 miles for first oil change. A good quality oil is also Shell Rotella. Just throwing in my nickel.

Many years ago, my brother was a Sr. Ford Mechanic. Since then he has done extensive work on almost every brand of car on the road including blueprinting for stock block racing. He always told me for new cars if it's an American automaker, change the oil at 100-300 miles, again at 1000 then 3000 after. If it's Asian, 1000 miles then every 3000 after. If it's most European cars made in Europe, 3000 is safe from the start. It doesn't have as much to do with quality as it does cleanliness through the milling process. And some European manufacturers break in their motors at the factory. He is a buy American guy too so it has nothing to do with brand loyalty.

I think you will find that your F-150 will "require" 5-20W oil. I (and Ford) highly reccomend the Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 2-20W oil. My 2001 F-150 SuperCrew 5.4l digests that oil just fine...
I have always changed oil and filter at 1000 miles...then every 3000. I suggest that you also add Prolong or LinZite (?sp) I use Prolong and have never been disappointed...My 1995 v-6 Dakota has 160,000 miles and is, according to my mechanic, in excellent condition...He thinks I am good for at least 200,000 before I need a valve job...He had the oil pan off about 20,000 miles ago and says the lower end is still almost like new
