View Full Version : Berkley Sensation
Is this line another Berkley "also ran"? or is it good line.
It seems that Berkley has been so busy making a better mouse trap - that they have forgetten the fisherman.
I have loved a lot of their lines in the past, but it seems that they have changed their line formualtions so much in the last couple of years, that it is tough to know if they are going ahead or behind.
I have always liked the berkley Trimax - the co - process line - and its lack of stretch - after they discontinued that line - it seems that their other replacement lines have never quite matched up.
Is it possible that the "Sensation" will be a "good" replacement for this line.
Any updates or on the water use would be appreciated.
I have been burned from the use of Vanish ,and some of their other lines due to irregularities, or break offs - that I have become a bit "line shy" so to speak on their line.
Thanks for any updates.

I used sensation on 3 or my pools last year. The line was in the 8lbs test and had good luck with it. The line seems to perform very well. I will be using it again this year also. Give it a try for yourself.

REW,
I recently purchased a spool of the Sensation line. I too used to fly the Berkley flag high. But recently (past 2 years) I have had issues with XL & I will never pick up/reccommend Vanish again. The Sensation was kinda my last chance with Berkley. Although I'm using it for perch fishing at the moment, it seems a little stiff to me. The jury is still out until I can use it for smallies, walleyes or such.

I've been wondering how it is too. I've been very dissapointed the last few years with both XL and Vanish also. I've been reluctant to try that Sensation just because of how dissapointed I was when Vanish came out. I've still been having very good results with their Premium line in the gold box. I've mostly been using 4 and 14 pound tests in the photochormic. I really like that line quite a bit. The price is its only drawback. But I guess if the other lines can't do it for me....
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

I'm quite fed up with all the Berkley re-formulations and trying to sort out what's what every time I need to get more line. I absolutely loved the Ultra-thin and they dropped it. Tried the Sensithin and wasn't happy with it's strength. Seemed to break a lot easier than similarly weighted line tests. Now they've dropped/changed that for something they call Sensation. I agree that Vanish has burned me on trying the Sensation. I have always used XT for trout fishing in 4 lb. test. Last year I broke off every time I snagged up. Was not able to bend out my hooks ONCE! This had never happened before. This tells me that they weakened the formulation when they supposedly were making it better. I will not buy any more XT, even in the 10 lb. for trolling. I need to trust my line and there is no confidence left that it will perform to my past expectations. Bought some Premium last summer to get me through the year. What I'm going to do is try some Yozuri Hybrid. Flourocarbon core with a mono coating. I'm not one to constantly change, so this has been driving me nuts for several years. Wish I could just find a good quality line and not have it improved for me when I liked it the way it was. (Did Rapala buy Berkley? lol)

I used Sensation all of last year and was very pleased with it. I used it in 4 and 8 pound test. I used it strictly for jigging and didn't have a complaint. I also used to use Tri-max and wasn't pleased when they discontinued it. I am not a fan of the "super lines" for jigging because I don't like how they feel going through my guides. I feel with sensations I am getting very good performance. As far as being stiff, its a considerably better than sensithin. I have been using a lot of vanish this past year and couldn't say enough good about it. I run a lot of 12-20 pound test for leaders. They are abrasive resistant and invisable, so you can cheat with heavier pound test. Remember no line is going to do everything, they are just another tool to help catch fish. Good Luck, Doug

REW,
Like I have said in the past, I like to use Vanish on all my leaders for trolling. (Use a trillene knot) Also, use it for my weapons that my charters will cast for days on end. Never had a problem. However, never have used it for my trolling, or casting rods.
I like the Berkley Sensation line for my casting reels 8# test. Has been good to me so far.

I used the 14lb Sensation last year on my baitcasting rod that doubles as a Pike and Bouncer rig. I was pleased with it. The 14 lb is also about the same diameter as 10lb line so you can also use that rig to troll cranks also.

Also very pleased so far with Sensation....Seems to have a great combo of diameter, strength and low stretch.. ##### sensitive for a Mono type line. Delivered as promised. I spooled everything up with it sor this upcoming season.

I quit the berkley bandwagon long ago. Been using Stren Original and easy cast on a majority of my jiggin rods. I have had alot of success and i feel stren is a tough line. Ive never broke off a big eye on 8lb.
Any1 ever try Ande line. Put 17lb Ande on my rigger rods last year and was really suprised with the preformance and diameter for 17lb just wondering how the lighter stuff is.
Matt,
Their premium line - has been my line of choice as well for the last couple of years. I also use - maninly the photochromic line.
Until I used the smoke colored fire line (completely invisable on an overcast day) I never really realized how much I watched line.
Lots of missed fish with invisable line.
So now, I seldom fish with any thing except a highly visable line. I like the photochromic line because it really does as they advertise - i.e. easy to see above water - but tends to disappear below water.
Again, no problem at all even last year with the premium line.
I also was fed up and unhappy with the sensithin. Not much stretch -- but -- so stiff.
Thus, my questions about the sensation.
Thanks again.

The majority of mine have Ande line. I only have 3 with sensation. I love the ande line no problems at all. My dad usta run 20lb ande on his dipsy's before fireline came out. Never any problems. My cousin is a charter boat captain in the gulf of mexico. He tell me Ande line is the only line worth buying.

The premium comments I feel are right on the mark and I like to use it for leaders and such. As for sensation I don't know yet, supposedly a remarketed sensi-thin which under #8 I love. I have never had anything but good experiences with #6 sensi-thin but I did have tons of problems with #12 and #14. I think that the #6 is the best for limpness and low stretch for the price out there. But even the original sensi-thin was better then last years. Looking forward to trying #6 sensation and seeing how it does. Oh yeah I mainly use #6 for trout in streams and such and stream trout at line shy as all get out.

I used a lot of Ande Premium 17 lb. for Trout and Salmon on Lake Michigan. Switched over to 30 lb. test Fireline several years ago. I still liked the properties of the Ande though. It was tough and tied good knots with very few memory problems. Fireline just allowed me to cover all my trolling needs without having to switch line on my reels so they could double for walleye reels after my spring Trout and Salmon fishing was done. Saved me from buying more linecounter reels and the related costs of more line everytime I switched uses. Fireline lasted for many, many years of use.
