Did you see the pigs that came off Plum Island yesterday?

how did they get the pigs on the island??

first of march here we go

J.S. 1

The pigs followed the sheep onto Plum!! :frypan:

It's that time of year alright! Take any information with a grain of salt.

Remember: when those saugers are on the bite, any color jig will do just fine as long as it is chartruese!

Hope its a good run this season after recent debacles. Flooding has been an issue for a few years now....so angling pressure has really been low. Lot's of young fish in the system and many fish may have never seen a jig yet. Last Fall was the fish real chance for anglers to get on 'em, so get locked, ****ed and ready to rock!

Lets see a link to a picture those pigs??? Its shaping up to be a good fishing weekend on the Illinois!

Close to an 1 inch of rain forcasted for Saturday. Nuts. Last fall was pretty good, though lots of small fish in the system.

Accuweather says up to two inches over next 4 days. NOAA site has not adjusted their prediction of river level yet to show an increase of water level. We'll have to wait and see. I haven't seen a precipitation forecast that has been right in a long time.

I wen't out today mainly to run the boat, hard to fish with a 4 yo, the river is high not to much debris, my wife said she had one bite and one minow stole off me but otherwise a slow hour and a half, had to get beck to pick up the 7 year old, long 2 hour drive for not much but it was nice to be out, we were by senashwine lake, sorry believe I mispelled that. If we get that big rain forget prefishing for the flw and iwt, hopefully there wrong

komo
03-06-2009, 07:40 PM
Good for you. Yep, senachwine, named after an old, potowattami (I believe) indian chief. Good place to fish. I hope that rain dont come. It will be a mess.

On a side note, get the 7yo old and fish the Full Throttle event on April 5th. Should be fun. Me and the 8yo are doing it.

Still calling for 2" +. Supposed to end on Monday.

Komo I am going to probably fish full throttle with another co-worker, my 7 yo does not have the patience to fish that long, pretty much how I was at that age :boohoo:

Yep, they all got ants in the pants. Its gonna be a mellow outing for us. A little prefishing on saturday, then some swimming at the hotel in the afternoon. Then fun times on sunday. Lets hope the river and weather cooperate. Otherwise, winnebago full throttle here we come.

Yikes, ditches are full, so it rained hard. Calling for 6 feet over flood stage by wednesday.

Well it came down like cats and dogs last night, I wish I would of had the rain gage out, now I live 2 hours away from spring valley and south but it does not look good, looked at noaa and it spiked up pretty good, more rain predicted later in week too, I wonder if they will cancel the flw, My guess is robert will postpone the iwt but maybe it will come down to below flood in 2 weeks

komo
03-08-2009, 01:15 PM
Well, its still coming down pretty hard. NOAA does look like a mess.

If the MWC is any gage, then we might be fishing. I can see the river maintaining those high waters levels for such a length of time. Sunday the 16th they are forecasting 27feet, so 6 above flood stage.

Its gonna be a dicey call. Especially if one reschedules and the other doesnt. Looks like another wait and see. At the least the MWC is the week after the FLW and IWT.

Mark, what do you think about FTO? Go or no?

Flooded Again
03-09-2009, 10:43 AM
Just drove by the dam at Starved Rock 20 mins ago. All coast guard boats are being pulled out. Dee Bennet road has six inches of water over it and getting worse. Forget water in the 28+ range. Start thinking 30+ with more to come. You will hope you get Chocalate milk to fish in. All 10 gates are wide open, however the lock gates are still closed. Water into the Starved Rock Park where you turn in to go and launch. If the 21st/22nd tournaments are not cancelled/moved already, they should strongly think about it. 28th/29th has a chance of staying if no more rain comes. Predictions are for 1-2 more inches
into Tuesday. Any more after that and we can consider kissing any good fishing for the MWC. We are well aware that may not have any impact from their view.

Just a report and not good right now.

Will post again tomorrow.

Hiya mike, not too worried about the FTO on April 5th. The river should be good. If not, we can push it to Lake Winnebago. Which isnt bad either.

FYI - more rain today(Tuesday) through the night into Wednesday. Then colder temps and high winds.

Crest may be close to breaking records.

Good for spawning saugers. Bad for anglers.

Out of curiosity ~ are the jumping carp/snakeheads upstream in the Spring Valley section of the Illinois river? I just viewed this vid and wondered...

Raybob,

Yes they are present in that area of the river. I seen them last year when a barge poured the coal to it and really got the water stirring. Hundreds of them!

Unrelated - check this outhttp://www.prairiestateoutdoors.com/index.php?/pso/article/illinois_river_closed_in_grundy_co./

Illinois River closed in Grundy County

March 10, 2009 at 08:14 AM
SPRINGFIELD – Due to rising water levels, swift currents and floating debris, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is restricting boating access on the Illinois River in Grundy County. The 19 mile section of the Illinois River between boating mile marker 254.1 at the Rock Island Bridge to mile marker 273 at the confluence of the Des Plaines and Kankakee River is closed to all recreational watercraft.
Likewise, all recreational boating on the Mazon River up to the confluence of the Illinois River is restricted. IDNR has authorization to designate restricted boating areas when navigation is deemed significantly hazardous.

All:

I was wondering if there are any launch sites in Spring Valley. I was told that if I went down route 89 thru town and past a bait shop, I would find a ramp to launch. Well, I took a ride this morning and all I could find is water, bridges, and flooded timber.

What did it just go thru a Monsoon down here??

It is bad here folks and predictions have approximated another 3 foot rise since yesterday.

Hey blue, how are ya. nice to see another cpa out there fishing.

Stick to the lasalle gauge as its the best indicator for spring valley/hennepin/henry. Now I know starved rock pool levels are beneficial, but i still cant figure out if 431 is good or bad. I know 20 ft when I hear it.

MWC'ers! Keep the paith and a positive outlook. The river will drop over the next few days and then come up some with some rain next week but it should be down a foot or two come MWC time. Although, you will be in high water the key to look for is visibility. With dropping levels most of the river debris will be gone and the water will begin to clear. If she gets to 6 or 8 inches (or more) of visibility and its game on! and will make for a great tourney! The men will quickly separate from the boys in an event like this.

Skip the community mob holes and find your own pockets of saugers. There are plenty in the system to be found and remember these fish have not had real pressure on them for a long time.

Fuzzy:

The River is going to be a mess in two weeks. Have you seen the river after this rain. Unlike the past where the water was high, this last storm has introduced a whole new meaning to "mudhole". The SRSP
has mud all over the roads and the parking lot. Typically the rule is 14 days from time of cresting before you will find some fish, give or take a day. Providing there is no more rain. That would put the first opportunity to find fish up river of the 39 bridge on the 26th with all the downstream water pouring out of the fields.

If a half inch of rain falls in a week, the 28th/29th weekend will be a luck bite if any. Better bring your snagging trebles. It is a shame the river is in the current shape. And yes someone will catch "a fish", but that is one reason a lot of entries are missing. No one really wants to spend that much money for a chance of luck with the river conditions.

Just a reality check

River Rat - I wasn't pontificating perfect conditions in 2 weeks. I was making a case that there is a high degree of probability that there could be 6 to 8 inches of clarity. That's the best anyone can really hope for at this stage of the game. All is not doom and gloom.

I'll bet there are at least 25 teams that are licking there chops over this situation. They know where they will be and when and they know the rest of the field is done already.
