I have a 12 week old Golden that is super so far with the exception of periodic biting. She seems to be able to learn all other commands except for 'no biting'. Any tips?
Thanks,

My only advise to you is be consistant and don't let the dog get away with biting. It will take a little time but at that age they all bite. Usually a sharp NO is all it takes. If its more of a chewing I put my thumb on top of the dogs tongue and push down a little discomfort and the dog will want your fingers out of its mouth.

I've been around a ton of dogs over the years and if there is one thing I have come to notice with pups, it's that there will be a few that will just be mouthier than the rest. One of the best hunting labs I ever had was also the mouthiest pup and dog I had ever seen. You could pull all the tricks in the dog training world on her but she would still mouth and chew on your hands, any kind and amount discipline wouldn't work. Around three years old she finaly grew out of it to a point that is. Some dogs can be especially mouthy at that age because they are teething.

Is the puppy biting during play or when your walking etc. If during walking he's/she's want's attention . If You respond with the pat on the head or a pet they will continue to do it. Trust Me , Myn lab
did it. After a bit us firm comand no and a firm sqweeze of there mout shut. Young dogs need a
lot of approval give it to them when there dooing things right.
Good Luck

The other thing that I have seen work is to turn your hand perpendicular to the dog's mouth so the wrist is on one side of the mouth and the fingers are on the other.
Then push your hand all the way to the back of the dog's mouth. Keep pushing until the dog pulls its head away (which will happen immediately!). Then say "NO BITE".
Do this a few times and that biting, mouthing stuff will stop fast.

Please Please Please read this article. http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/archives/bite.txt
You want to teach the pup bite inhibition...not no biting.
You want the pup to learn that it has control over how much bite it is giving.
All dogs can and will bite, in the right circumstances, period! You want it to learn that, if put in a situation were if feels it must bite for whatever reason, that is has control over the pressure of the bite, and this my save some considerable damage.
Again, please read this article!

something that really works well is when they are on a rampage take your hand put it on the top of their snout and squeeze on the k9 teeth to cause a little pain or discomfort. just enough to not hurt the dog. they will not enjoy it and most likely not do it again for a good while
