I am thinking about upgrading some of my electronics on my new boat and was wondering what locators are viewed as the "Best". I don't mean to start a brand war but if you could put any locator for your boat what would you get?? Assume money is not a big issue but performance is. I am only interested in a stand alone locator, no GPS capability and for freshwater only (200' capability). I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Genetron, it is the best sonar available

I don't want a war either...
My boat has a Garmin 240. For the price of this unit I am EXTREMELY happy with it's capabilities and features.

I agree with Genetron, but for a "reasonable" price, the Vexilar Edge2 507 would be next. If you are looking to have it as part of a system then look at Pinpoint. Then I think you could look at the Garmin, Lowrance, Bottom Line and Raytheon. I would consider the Humminbird/Zercom last. IMHO

No war please, this is just my opinion...Thanks

Pinpoint if your gonna include the trolling motor now or someday. Or if you want to have a screen in front and back at the same time. Pinpoint sync's their sonar so you can use more than one transducer at the same time. Pricey though but you can buy the trolling motor and 7520 for the price of the genetron. Any of the above if your only gonna want to see the transom transducer. Lowrance makes a good unit too! Craig

I run a Pinpoint 7520 standalone. Love the unit. Easy to use.

Been looking at locators myself and I'd like to find one user friendly with out getting the better half all nervous? Could you use some more input about Genetron and their www.

Thanks in advance
