On your show of feb 28 on fs north the fishing trip was on trolling boards for walleyes with the Pres of Offshore tackle as your quest. In the show a mention was made for a line counter that fit on the rod. It looked lilke the line ran thru the center of the counter and not thru a silt in the top of must of the counters on the market. Any info on this line counter would be appreciated.

Grandpa:

Thanks for watching Fishing the Midwest.

The line counter you saw was on one of the new Fenwick Elite Tech Walleye rods. It's a built-in counter, it comes on the rod.

I think I've seen line counters that can be added on to the rod. I'm at Cabela's this weekend, will see what I can find out.

Thanks again for watching.

Another nice option for the budget minded just getting started in trolling is color coded trolling line. Cabellas and I believe Berkley offer this.

I have 2 line counters that are made by Shakespeare. They work real good.Never had any troulble with them.Even saw the Lindners boys using them on one of their shows.I was the same, have enough rods and good reels.Did not want ot invest in new equipment.

Bob, what was your take on the line-counter rods. Did you like them, accurate? Any probs?

i have a shakespeare line counter and it only works w/ heavy line(10lb mono). i would like to find one that will work w/ 8 and 10 lb fireline.

Rapala makes a real nice clip on linecounter. Comes with the Rapala trolling guide too. We've used them with 8lb mono all the way up to 18lb lead core. For less than $20 you can't go wrong.

CJBrown:

The rods with the line counter seemed to do a nice job. The actions were good. I'm not sure if I prefer line-counters on the rod or on the reel. I didn't get enough experience with the rods to make a good assessment. Will post here after I get more time with them. What I saw looked good.
