What are the reasons why split rings and treble hooks aren?t used on blade baits like sonars. What is the purpose of the hooks they use? If anyone has changed the hooks what trebles work best.
Thank you,

The reason that most tackle manufacturers don't use split rings on bladebaits (some do), is that, because they allow the hook to swing too freely and increase the length of the hook from the lure body, they contribute to the lure fouling the line. Some manufacturers use cut-eye hooks and crimp them shut. Others use split shanked trebles. I use split shanks and add a drop of solder to close the split.

Bitzer Creek makes the ZIP blade. They put a split ring on there lures. The back hook is a treble attached w\ a split ring, like a crankbait. The front hook is a split treble. I've called the company and they'll send replacement front hooks free of charge. Maybe call them and they can help 262-334-8118.

when i buy my silver buddies i take all the hooks off and than install split rings and replace the hooks with gammi wide gab trebles, up to 1 oz they arn,t a problem as far as fouling the line but i have noticed that when i get to 1 oz and up they do foul sometimes, what i do is try to let the blade just touch bottom and than bring it up that seems to take care of the fouling, since adding the split rings on silver buddies i have noticed a big difference in the #s of fish that come unglued.
