If you were to buy one of these motors (assuming the PTSV has an external transducer) which would you buy and why?? Thanks for any input.

Unless you are able to get the PSTV with auto-pilot, I wouldn't consider them a choice.

Thank you. I have a cable motor and had decided on the Terrova before the PSTV closeout prices lowered. I like the idea of it following contours but also like autopilot. Thanks again.

I started out with the ptsv 109#, used it for 2 1/2 seasons hated it, not reliable at all. Switched last year to the terrova not a problem no issues quiet easy to use, foot pedal great. I fish alot and love the terrova.

The PTSV is a great concept, I owned one for 2 years, and I won a tournament that I'm sure can be attributed to it, but it is so unreliable that unless your an electronics technician save yourself the headache. I must believe Motorguide recognized they cannot make this design reliable and either scrapped the concept completely or are into a major redesign. If you do buy one, remember this name, TRI STATE TROLLING MOTOR, located in MO. Not sure they are still around but if they are and you buy one, send it to them to repair it. They fixed mine after 2 failed attempts with other outfits on Motorguide's authorized service centers. Hey, if they are still around and you live in Missouri maybe you should buy one!!

cisco,

I have a 60" 24V PTSv with the pinpoint TR320 (gray color) depthfinder currently on my boat. It came on a boat I bought last spring. The previous owner claimed to have installed all available updates (I have no idea what these were - but the unit has them done). Either way, I've been happy with its performance and the tracking operation on all but the most gradual breaklines... Its in great shape and doesn't have a lot of use (Its on a tiller boat).

To make a long story short, I'm a cable guy and would like to replace the rig with a 60" 24V Maxxum unit. I noticed your comment in post #3 regarding removing a cable unit from your boat. If in good condition I'd be willing to entertain a trade, assuming the correct motor.

Let me know what you think. Leave a PM if you would!

thanks,
catfish
