Bucko,
The BPS rods that I've seen and used were very nice. Trolling rods do not need to be high tech rods, and fiberglass is just fine. Most serious Erie trollers use rods that cost 40 bucks or less. The rods should be rated for 8 - 15 or so. They need to have a soft tip with plenty of power in the butt. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get all identical rods. In fact if you have the opportunity to go through a bunch of rods, get 2 weights of 6 or 8 ounces and use them to compare rods that are designated as identical. You'll be surprised how much diference there can be in rods that are supposed to be alike.
Matching rods will make learning much easier and quicker. Good luck, and have a ball. Come on Spring!!!

Diawa Heartland Series. 8'6" for $29.99 at Fleet Farm. Times 6 equals $180. Plus tax, of course. I like the rods.

Gander Mountain Guide series Trolling rods. 2 pice, 8'6" or 7'6" medium or medium heavy action. Ihave used both sizes and weight with boards and they work great. I do prefer the medium. Only $59.99.

FYI, I just got a flyer in the mail for the Bass Pro Fishing Classic (held next weekend, but sale prices start this weekend) and you can get $20.00 off the Walleye Angler Signature Series rods (all styles). Trolling rods are regular 59.99, should be on sale for $39.99.

Take a look at the Cabela's 9' Innerflow rods these work excellent for this application. They are well worth the money in my opinion.
