I saw the picture last night at the club meeting (Columbia Basin). It will be a new record. The actual weight was 18.90 lbs., not 18 lbs. 9 oz. The fish was 39" long and was caught below Irrigon. The gentleman that caught the fish was a cousin of one of our club members. Very nice 'Eye.

Let's try this one more time, since my wife decided to go to work and leave me alone for a while....the fish caught is 18.90lbs, and from my info. it was caught below Irrigon, ore.,just as "wawalleye" stated above...In reply to "Bonezz"..yes I do fish the columbia for walleye as much as I can, which is never enough. I fish mostly below the john day dam. However,I have also fished the area where this latest BIG fish was caught, the Smokercraft/Sylvan spring Walleye Classic will be happening march 23&24th in this stretch of the river. It"s a fun tournament. It is being sponsored by High Desert Marine in Hermiston ,Ore. phone# 541-567-8419.

There is some info bouncing around about the 18.9 lb walleye I caught a couple weeks ago so I thought I would give some facts, I have been accused of being an honest fisherman and I apologize for this character flaw.
The walleye was weighed on a certified scale provided by Rod MacKenzie owner of High Desert Marine in Hermiston. When I realized I may have a state record I called Rod's house on a Sunday and He, Lara his daughter , Carolyn his wife, and Riley, Lara's daughter all came down to Irrigon with the scale, camera and tape measure to record all the pertinent info. The whole thing was witnessed OSP officer Brian Reeves. They were great to come down on their day off just to weigh a fish. After weighing and a couple pictures I took her back to the spot I caught her and released her.
Here are the official numbers: Weight 18.9 lbs. Length 34 inches. Girth 24 inches. The fish wasn't especially long but very fat.
I have contacted the WDFW about submitting the fish as a new state record. I am waiting to fill out an application to submit the fish for their consideration. It is heavy enough but still needs to pass their requirrements for a state record.
Since we all know how fishermen can tell a story I thought I would set things straight.

WOW!!!!!! Congratulations, what a great fish. I commend you on the release, I don't know if I would have been able to take my hands off of a fish like that.

Thanks for clarifying that for everyone. You are a man amongst men to be able to release that fish. Now we know for sure there will be "another" state record out there. I am afraid you would have to hit me in the head with a big board to release that fish! That is a ton of weight for that length. I caught a 15lb. 4oz. a couple years ago that was the same length. "Envious in Seattle", just kidding LOL, congratulations that is the one we are all shooting for.
