Just got back from first time out with my 2008 Lund 1750 Fisherman. Motor is a 115 Merc 4/stroke. Had four guys in the bost with limited gear and back live well 1/2 full. Boat would NOT plane with all four behind the windshield. Prop is a 17 pitch 13.25 aluminum. RPMs were around 5400-5600 at 40 MPH once we got her up. (WOT)

Wondering if a SS prop, and or smaller pitch can help with this, or am I going to have to upgrade the motor? I don't need to go faster, but the hole NO/shot is rediculos.

Somebody Help me.....:(

...and stick with the aluminum props since most SS props are running higher blade rake angles than the aluminum. The high rake angle gives you more bow lift which you don't need. I'm assuming that you're trimmed "in" all the way for holeshot, and adding a planing foil to the lower unit may get you up on plane if the prop swap isn't enough. I've had good luck with the SE 300 foil on stern heavy rigs.

You need to trim your motor down to its lowest setting to get a good hole shot and then trim up as you gain speed. Did you trim your motor when you did your run? If you started in the wrong trim position on your motor you could spend a long time getting up to speed. Good luck......

If you switch to a 15 pitch aluminum you would gain 400 rpms +/- that will help alot with the planing problems. You also may have to raise your motor up on the transom a hole or two. Stainless prop will help even more once you get the motor where it should be with the 15 pitch aluminum.

Just an FYI, double posting is not allowed in the forums. One of the moderators may have "merged" the 2 threads into 1.

The others have given much more specific information, all I can do is relate general experience - a Fisherman 1700 with a Yamaha 115 and unknown alum. prop takes forever to get on plane with 5 husky guys in the mid or rear and no fishing gear. With 3 it is not a rocket ship but does very well. Every year on our annual trip we pile everyone in the Fisherman for an inital lake tour, then later split into two boats for actual fishing. I'd say you have enough motor, and just need to reprop, as you surmised.
