Just wondering if anyone has been on the Maumee River yet or the Sandusky River. Too busy at work to go. This warm day has put alot of guys calling in sick on the Maumee by the amount of trucks in the parking lots. Lots of waders and small boats in the Maumee. Any reports ?? At last spring is just around the corner. I better start moving my work schedule around to join the crowd...........Thanks in advance

That is great. All the walleye guys on this board and no reply, you all must fish the lake. I will go and try the Maumee tomorrow and report back. Lots of guys and boats in the river today. They must all just have the itch to get out even if the fish are not in the river. Ha Ha

Try maumeetackle.net for up to date river and fishing conditions that are specific for the Maumee River.

Limits are being taken regularly and this weekend will be no exception and will probably be shoulder to shoulder. check out ohiogamefishing.com for info on the maumee in addition to maumeetackle.

Good luck.

Combat Fishing at it's best, I went one time and will never go again. Good option for shore anglers though that want to catch some eyes.

Sorry you don't feel it is fishing. Many don't feel it is fishing pulling boards either. I for one enjoy both. The River is a learned event. I don't stand on the shore. Growing up in the area it is easy to avoid the crowds. I guess crowds are different in other places. HMMM.... I seem to remember last year day three of the FLW Lake Erie Tour event being around at least 100 boats when I was fishing as a Co. Is it any different then when you have to hope your boards don't cross over an on coming boater? I talk to Gary at Maumee Tackle on a regular basis, just thought some from WC might join in the updates. Thanks to those that did.....

I took 4 nice fish today. Again, it is easy to avoid the crowds if you have an understanding of the river.

Went up the 22/23, cought are limit quick sunday afternoon. Then next day, we had to work to catch our limit. Fished 8 hrs and got our limit. The eyes are in the fast moving water. So Ft. Meigs and White street are not catching a lot of fish. Botton wood and Blue grass are the best areas to fishi right now. The fish are in the fast moving water. I fish out boat so the closest i get is the bend before bluegrass. I never tried but can I just up past Bluegrass Island in my boat? I talked to a some guys and they said there was no way, so I just never tried it. Good luck all, I hope this helped.

Web,

No way past Blue Grass. If your boat is small enough you can put it in between the Buttonwood Rapids (bluegrass) and Jerome Road Rapids under the I-475 / 23 bridge. It is just a dirt access right under the bridge on the Maumee side. I would not try more then a small 14 ft boat however. NO dock and it is just dirt.

I am hoping for this rain to raise the water back up for my high water spots and it then should bring another batch of walleye up the river.

Dibling, Did you do the Mi league last year ? I have never fished the river, but have heard a lot about it. Seems some love it & some hate it. I just know if I am driving that far, I am bringing my boat-LOL. Steve

Yes, I have fished the Mi league for a couple of years as a Co. First event is on Sat. Looks to be a nice day. Not sure about the water. River is very low right now. Rock bars are out. We seem to be in a low period of the run. Fish are being caught but not those great numbers. If some rain would fall west of us that would be great and would push more fish up the river.

As for the love / hate of the river it can be a zoo. No doubt. It is an aquired behavior like all types of fishing. Right now you only need 1/4 oz to 1/8 oz weight with a small floater and tail on about a 3' to 4' leed. High water you may need up to 3/4 oz.

Heck, I have been to the Mississippi River two years now for the League finals and have had two walleye that were big enough to bring to the scale with 32 hours on that river. Last year while pulling cranks we were catching 8 to 9 inch walleye.

In my opinion the month to month and a half of the spring spawn is a welcome beginning to the fishing season for me. Lake Erie is great but if you don't have a big enough boat then you learn to adapt and fish when and how you can.

Good Luck - Mike

Thanks Mike. I thought that was you. We fished together last year in the league event at PC I believe or could of been Au Gres, can't remember. Good luck Saturday. Can't make this one & going to be lucky if I can even make it up for the April bite. WORK SUCKS(LOL), sat around all Jan/Feb with not much going on, then since early March it has been crazy.
