Bob, just watched the show where you were fishing in Wis., and showing what to do before getting to the boat ramp. My ? is, you showed something to hold your motor straight. What was it, and where can I get them? Thanks Doug

Doug:

I don't know what they're called, but I think most marine dealers have them. I think Raveling Outdoors has something similar also.

They're plastic deals that snap onto the shaft the motor slides on when turning. You snap one onto the shaft on one side of the motor and onto the shaft on the other side of the motor. They're connected by a piece of thin rope, maybe a foot long. They prevent the motor from falling to one side or the other as you're trailering.

You've got to remember to take them off before you try to steer the boat. I forgot a couple of times and could not steer the boat as it slid off the trailer into the water.

Let me know if I can provide anymore info, thanks for watching Fishing the Midwest.

Thanks Bob. As my motor gets older, it's starting to turn, just a little. The boats tarp also covers the motor, but still turns. Nothing bad, I just don't like it. Thanks Doug

I solved the problem with a bungee cord. I put the engine straight, and then put the bungee cord thru the steering wheel, and hook it to the bottom of the seat bracket. Its not super tight, but enough to hold the engine straight.

I have these and they work great.
I also think Bob has 'em on his boat as well.

Raveling Outdoors has these.
I have no experience with 'em.
