I have a bunch of the Scheel's Outfitter Rods and they are an excellent value for the money. I especially like the guide and tournament series rods. New to Scheel's Outfitter this year is a 8'6" cork handled trolling rod with a retractable butt section that is ideally suited for planer board fishing. Check them out...
The new Scheels Outfitter rods are now all St. Croix blanks and the rods are assembled by Hagen's in Mitchell, SD
The Outfitter 85 mod rod is the Premier blank at $99 retail
They also have one higher quality that they haven't received yet in Sioux Falls that is the Elite Blank and it will be $150 retail.
But, as stated earlier I'm getting a report that everything will be substantially discounted during the ANNIVERSARY SALE! good luck

Whoooooo-wheeee!!!! I love their tournament series rods. I hope this rumor is true. I wish they would make a 5'6" with a pistol grip. I like to throw spinner baits to those bucketmouths you guys hate. I spend way too much money there. :)

What is the name of the rod using the elite blank?
I heard from a St. Croix rep last year that SC was not going to release the Legend Elite blanks (or even seconds) to the outside world.
Did you mean the Avid blank maybe? Or are we indeed talking about the green LE blanks on Scheels rods?
The rep from Scheels told me it was the Elite blank...and couldn't remember the name of the new "outfitter" serires rod that was coming... It's supposed to be in stock next week. I guess we'll all see.

Is this sale supposed to occur at ALL Scheels stores? Just wondering if there is going to be a good sale at the Fargo location!

I own & use several Scheels rods, & like them a lot!
Well worth the $$ and then some. Great value even when they are not on sale if you ask me.

Checks out the 13 Ave. S. store, before they all go. If they are picked over check out the Moorhead MN store, they have a good selection of Scheels rods on hand too.
Tell them Backwater Eddy sent ya.
May not do ya any good, but you will get to see the look on their face when they say "Backwater WHO?"
;)
HA!

Just bear in mind that Loomis was purchased by Shimano a couple years ago. They may be Loomis blanks, but that does not mean they are necessarily a GL2, GL3, IMX or GLX. Much like saying a particular reel is manufactured by Shimano. Is it based off the FX series or a Stella!
I'm certainly not knocking Scheel's rods - just make sure you compare apples to apples.
Regards
dave is right. there aren't that many people out there making blanks. it's a real game. the other side is that blanks cost so little to make you have to wonder if it's to the manufacturers advantage to make a limited variety. this industry is absolute proof in the power of marketing and name recognation.
SCHEELS NEW OUTFITTER rods are made from ST. CROIX blanks! Some of last years models were Loomis blanks. Hagen's in Mitchell, SD is making the rods for Scheels "Outfitter" series.
The blanks that St. Croix is selling to Scheels, may be "seconds" or of a lesser quality than they are using on their own rods, but I doubt it! As someone else mentioned, often it's not the quality of the product, but the power or emphasis on the marketing.
As to whether or not the sale will take place in Fargo, Bismarck or the other locations, I'm not sure? However, this is the companies 100 yr. anniversary sale ~ So I'd imagine that it will be all locations.
For my money, these rods can't be topped. If they go on this HUGE sale as I've been instructed, give em' a try. As Eddy mentioned these rods are a value when their not on sale...
Good Luck!
