just curious...i caught just about 30 feet from the lasalle docks while jiggin a 31 1/2" walleye that i would estimate weighed around 10lbs...biggest one ever...sure wish i had mounted it, but ah well. it sure was tastey at least.
fillets were so thick i had to butterfly them just to cook it.

My biggest was 24 1/2 inches. Not much to brag about in most places, but hey, I live in NM. I only know a handful of 10+ pounders being caught in this state. My nephew caught a 27 inch eye on my boat last year. I caught my 2 biggest back to back the 24 1/2 and a 23 1/2. They were delicious.

Biggest 27" 5.6# a bit skinny from Ute Lake NM, red Oahe Little ripper. A 4# didn't measure it last year from EB, glass shad rap. And a 24" no weight from Santa Rosa three years ago, on a crappie jig. I let the 4# fish go in EB ... kinda rare, so keep em coming there. LOL

I caught a 33" walleye in Lake McConaughey, NE. It only weighed 10.6 lbs because she was all spawned out. Normally would have probably weighed over 13 lbs.

My biggest to date is a 23 inch out of lake Oahe, nothing to brag about compared to all your other 10 pounders but it was real nice and fat. I'm sure I would have caught alot bigger ones if I wasn't so busy running the boat and trolling motor at the same time that I don't always sense the featherlight bite the big ones have. But then again, I usually catch the most fish and the bigger ones out of everyone in my boat anyway so can't really complain.

32" long and 18.5 around. was a fall fish. weighed it 5 hrs later and still weighed 13#. that was from big bend. it's mounted next to the 30" that looks small next to it. it was caught at ft. randall and was a fall fish, too.

I caught one last October out of Cranberry Creek that was 31 1/2 inches - big fat fish - we're still laughing about trying to get that fish in the boat. Didn't get the weight as my digital scale got wet and took a dump. Got a good pic on my BIL's cellphone - great color that time of year. I think we ate that fish tonite. Don't ever let anyone tell you that those big eyes don't taste good.

30 1/2 inch, just under 10 lbs out of Lake Saganaga on the Gunflint Trail in MN. My buddy, my lab & I ate it for dinner and then breakfast & lunch the following day. Tasted great. I initially released it but it bellied up a few minutes later. I caught & released a 29 1/2 incher the following day at the same spot. Caught a 29 incher two summers back on a lake just 20 min from my home. I released that one too. Got a 28 incher when I was 15 (33 yrs ago) shore fishing on the backwaters of the Mississippi at Grey Cloud Island. I was offered $10 for it by a couple of drunk black guys that were fishing near me. I took it home instead so my dad could see it. When my dad started fileting it there was a very noticeable odor of diesel fuel coming from it. My dad's neighbor ended up eating it. He said it was delicious.

11.3 Lb. It was odd as the evening before I caught a 10.75 Lber which was then my biggest. My fishing partner and I fished this spot for 3 hours on a Friday evening and 2 1/2 hours the next Saturday morning and caught a total or 12 walleye over 5 lbs. Had never put that kind of stringer together before and haven't done it since and this was 25 years ago.

Hi Glenman12, I agree wholeheartedly. We really do love our Canadian Shore lunches made with 15" to 17" walleye. IMHO the smaller fish taste the best.

Our whole group is conservation fisherman and practice catch photograph and release. I have many pictures of wonderful fish caught in great places. I have hanging on my wall in my office a beautiful hand carved 17" walleye; it is a one of a kind done by an artist from Northern Wisconsin. It is carved out of brown wood and mounted on driftwood. This is the only fish on my wall. I am also a big believer in replicas. Have a great trip this year.

P.S, to answer the original post a 28" walleye caught in Whiteshell Provincial Park Manitoba Canada. Still longing for that 30" plus. We will continue having a great time trying for it.

Thank you,
Larry Mac

My biggest is a 31.5" that went 11.5# and 29" that went 10#. Both were caught through the ice on Buffalo Bay, which is the only Lake of the Woods water located in Manitoba. I wish the big one was on the wall, but released both of them.

I see no problem keeping trophy fish for whatever reason, the older they are just means they are closer to death anyways and the older fish don't reproduce as good as younger fish in there spawning prime, on waters like lake Erie there are tons of big old fish that have done there reproduction job for 10-15 years

I hear ya and understand that point, IMO I don't think that apply's to the Great Lakes, expecially because the nature of Erie it being the walleye factory it is. I don't know a ton about other great lakes but based on tourney figures and bags they aren't suffering either.

mine was 33" the summer of 2003 out of Kenora on LOTW. Avid 6'3" medium action rod with 6lb xl trilene and a 1/4 pink and chatruese firball jig tipped with a minnow.

We didn't weigh it but dont't think it was as heavy as others mentioned on this thread of similiar length. It wasn't skinny but not as thick as some of the pictures posted.

From 1982 to 1993, I guided for a fly-in fishing lodge about 500 miles north of the Canadian US border. We were right on the Ontario Manitoba border. I caught millions of Walleyes but never broke the 7-pound mark. My guests caught all kinds of walleyes in the 10 to 15-pound range but I have never broken the 7-pound mark. This spring I am either going to Cedar Lake or Lady Evelyn Lake. Both lakes are at the top end of Algonquin Park (6 hours and 7 hours north of Toronto) and both lakes have Monster Walleyes. I have friends that caught a 9 pounder and a 15 pounder and I have seen mounted Walleyes that were 20 pounds coming out of Lady Evelyn Lake.

If the biggest I catch is 7 pounds, then I know I am cursed....lol....

19 lb 2 oz 4years ago at old Hickory Tasted Just fine.

Hello Just for fun, Wow that is, excuse me, was an amazing fish. My walleye calculator stopped at 36.5" and 18 lbs. That fish would have been the state record in many of the states I fish.

Wisconsin 18lbs 0oz Caught 1933
Michigan 17lbs 3oz Caught 1951
Minnesota 17lbs 8oz Caught 1979
Iowa 14lbs 8oz Caught 1986
Indiana 14lbs 4oz Caught 1977
Illinois 14lbs 0oz caught 2005

According to WC records that would have beaten the state record in all but 5 US states. The State of Tennessee has a precious resource in Old Hickory Lake. As most know The World Record Walleye came from that lake. I really hope they protect their wonderful resource.

If what you say is true (we are all fisherman) congratulations on that amazing fish.

Oh by the way did you bake, fry or grill it?

Sincerely,
Larry Mac

If that eye was properly cared for you need to work on your fish cooking skills. I have eaten a lot of big eyes out of Erie including spring spawning fish and I have yet to eat a bad one. Of course after eating them for only 50 years or so I may run into a bad one yet.

Had an AYA tournament on Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids, MN this past weekend. For those of you who don't know about the AYA (Angler Young Angler) tournaments it is one adult and 2 kids 17 years or younger. I took my girlfiriends cousin and brother out... I had never fished with either of them ever before. Fishing with crawlers and 8 foot lindy rigs was a chore, but the kids grasp on after an hour of slamming on perch one after the other. All the walleyes left my spots from the previous day of pre fisning. I told the kids to hang in there. We jumped from spot to spot to spot. 1:30 came around and I put a 26" in the boat, FINALLY. 20 minutes later, Jesse, (my little partner up front) put a 30.5" in the boat. We ended up taking 4th place cause of that fish. What a hog for a tournament......TAKE A KID FISHING WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE. AND LOOK UP AYA TOURNAMENTS AROUND YOUR AREA. THEY ARE AN EXCELLENT TIME AND VERY REWARDING.....

Couple 11lbs fish from Detroit river.
Get the big ones mounted let the smaller ones go.MNR reports several times over the years the 3-5lbs fish are the big spawners not the old cows.

Anyway Dave, let's keep this conversation on topic. How did the mounts turn out?

Mine were 11.5 lb 28.5 in full of spawn, in Depere Wi. and a 29in on Winnebago on a leech, both released. Had a huge one up to the boat on Lac Seul but came off as it got tangled with someones line. Still waiting for that 30.

Pretty cool thread, I have had a few nice ones from Canada, but someday I hope to tie into one of those Columbia river GIANTS. Every year there are a few 18 lb plus fish that show up on the radar, unreal !

Muskie dude...seriously, clearly you have a very small ****. Typical response to any discussion that deals with size, no matter the context.

My buddy and I have been trolling the eastern basin of Erie, NE corner of Ontario and Bay of Quinte for years and racked up many 9 and 10 pounders. But ironically, my biggest was a 32", 13.4#er from my local stretch of the Susquehanna River here in upstate NY. It hit a 1/8 oz. bucktail tipped with a fathead minnow. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Well I hate to say it but my wife caught a 26.5 on the ol miss. , of course I was guiding her. She was saying saying I bet it is a big catfish, but I new better unfortunately. It came up I netted it real quick and she could not believe it, of course it was in the slot and had to go back. We forgot the digital camera that day . So my 4lb beats her fish:peepwall:, but it was fat and a great fish, but as far as I know I have no memory of that. The ruler must have been off!

Have had a couple over 11lbs. but largest in a Walleye Central Braggin rights event was from Erie at Huron at 10.72. Every one needs to experiance that event at least once when the bid girls are home.

26" Sauger-Gavin's Point, Yankton, SD (Released)
30" Walleye-Lake Thompson, Oldham, SD (Mounted)
31" Walleye-Rainy River, Clementson, MN (Released w/pic)

Either put 'em on the wall or let 'em go!

You don't eat walleyes over 24". I don't eat 'em over 20" but I catch a lot of nice fish, and I like letting those girls go in front of other sportsmen a lot better than I like cleaning and eating them. It's a fisherman's sin...and they taste horrible. A person should decide if he can afford to mount a trophy or not long before he keeps it and lets it die. :badidea:

13 lb.s 6 oz, on a Shad Rap (SR7) in Chartruse at the Pickering Nuclear Stations Eastern warm water outflow. For those not familar with this area it is just east of Toronto, Canada on Lake Ontarios north shore. I also caught a 12+ pounder here the year before. My other 4 Walleyes over 10 pounds are all from the Bay of Quinte near Napanee, Ontario, a great late fall early winter fishery.

You need to learn how to prepare and cook fish, that's all. If the fish is LEGAL, it is up to the angler to decide what to do with it. Releasing big, old fish to die doesn't always make a lot of sense either, huh?
