Hi ALL,

I will be replacing my Impeller before the season open this year. I have read from other forum about Water Pump (don't know what it is). Do I need to change that as well while I am at it? How often you guys change yours? Its a 90HP 4Stroke Mercury (2006).

Thank you

The impeller is the water pump itself. Alot of guys have different timings of when to change it. Most manuals state that it should be replaced every year but I think that's overdoing it. I replaced mine in 06 and most likely won't for another year or so unless I see signs that it's going bad.

So when we replace the "Impeller", we replace this

I took my e-tec in for the 3 year service and the tech told me that they normally just check the water pressure and if it is good, they don't replace the water pump. The tech checked mine and told me that I was good to go. I was told that if i see any decrease in water pressure, to bring the motor back in and they would change it. He didn't seem too concerned about it.

I'll most likely have them swap it out after this year (4th season) just to be on the safe side.

I'd get the water pump kit as you want to replace all the seals and gaskets while you're at it.

San Chan,
While it's not a difficult job, and best accomplished with an extra set of hands, if you don't consider yourself mechanically inclined, I'd pay a dealership to do it. It's not a labor intensive job, maybe 1 to 1-1/2 hours, plus parts. If you want, send me your current email addresa via PM, I'll send you back a link I've found of a guy that has created a great photo-documentation of doing his. Not the same exact motor, but you'll get the idea.
